Iceland captain Aron Gunnarsson clears up the Cristiano Ronaldo shirt swap situation
The Ronaldo – Gunnarsson Shirt Swap furore
Speaking at his press conference yesterday, Iceland captain Aron Gunnarsson cleared up the whole controversy surrounding his requested shirt swap with Cristiano Ronaldo.
The pictures of Gunnarsson asking for Ronaldo’s shirt straight after the final whistle had blown on Iceland’s draw with Portugal have become almost iconic at this stage.
No sooner had the whistle blown than Gunnarsson was asking for the shirt off Ronaldo’s back, and Cristiano, who was feeling a bit peeved at the lack of yards given on his free-kick, didn’t seem to chuffed about it.
Ronaldo brushed him off and said ‘inside’, but that led to speculation as to whether Ronaldo actually did swap shirts in the end.
And Bild yesterday claimed that Ronaldo initially replied with ‘Who are you?’ when approached.

The Iceland skipper has now clarified the whole thing, and it turns out that Ronaldo wasn’t such a jerk with him after all:
‘It’s true that I asked him for his shirt, but he didn’t ask me who I was. He said there was no problem, but inside the dressing room. I’m already tired of this story, I want to concentrate on the next game, and I have nothing more to say on it.’
