Jaap Stam

It'll be interesting to see how he gets on at Reading.

Some former United players have been reasonably successful as managers and others not so much - yes, that means you Mr Solksjaer.

Assuming Stam has been looking for a Championship club to manage for a while, I wonder if he applied for the Cardiff job and was he one of those interviewed perhaps?

Not sure how I would have felt if he were appointed our manager - probably a bit worried that he would turn out to be another Ole to be honest.

Big gamble by Reading but then I suppose you could argue that if we really are serious about promotion, appointing Trollope is quite a big gamble by us.

Interesting season ahead.

I'm pretty sure most clubs are waking up to the fact that joining the managerial roundabout can be a very expensive thing. Steve McClaren for example probably asks for a substantial salary measured in the millions of pounds and gets a huge pay off everytime he fails.

I think more clubs are taking the route we are by employing younger managers with something to prove but on reasonable salaries. I personally agree with that strategy and hopefully it will pay off
