i dont get it. Surely if they beat Poland and Germany beat N.Ire comfortably then they still have a chance of qualifying in 3rd?

Looks like you were right. Not going to make a difference for us when we beat Russia 2-0 and England draw 1-1 with Slovakia putting us top

The first criteria is points gained between teams in question.

So NI beat Ukraine and would therefore finish ahead of them.

It is much fairer no team should finish above a team they lost to if points are equal.

They will be out even if the beat Poland, if they finish on same points as NI they will still finish fourth, because on the head to head NI beat them so now can't finish higher than NI,

So this is huge for Wales then. If England can beat Slovakia then we are 3rd regardless of how we fare against the Russians.

It means we would finish above Slovakia, but goal difference would determine where we sit compared to other 3rd place teams and whether we would be in the top 4 of the 3rd placed finishers.

Which groups are we involved in for 3rd place finish? And how many of those teams in 3rd are eliminated?

I see it now...but why change what is a league....surely it's about the 3 games not how you done against 1 team....

It is first and foremost a league and if you do better than another team with more points then you rightly take your place above them.

It is only and issue when two teams have the same points. In that situation they have had the same season/competition.

I actually believe that this is then best way of separating them. It seems odd for teams to have the same points and one be ABOVE the other having lost to them.
