Cardiff City could be tempted by move for £1m Wales star David Cotterill

Cardiff City could be tempted to go back in for David Cotterill as Sheffield Wednesday and Reading eye up a summer swoop for the Wales Euro 2016 ace.

The Bluebirds were keen on landing Cotterill last summer only for the Cardiff-born wideman to sign a new deal at Birmingham where he impressed in the Blues' play-off push.

And it is understood a £1.1m release clause in his contract could see rivals chase his signature.

The 28-year-old's form, including six assists and four goals, saw him earn a place in Chris Coleman's squad in France where he has joined in the preparations for Thursday's clash with old rivals England.

Cardiff were thought to have retained an interest in 23-cap Cotterill after previous interest under Russell Slade.

And with Bluebirds boss Paul Trollope knowing the local forward well from his role as Wales coach, they could again enquire about landing Cotterill.

But with Reading and beaten play-off finalists Sheffield Wednesday also thought to be looking at exploiting Cotterill's release clause they could have competition for his services.

Nooooooo!! :o

Once said he would "never" play for Cardiff City FC after he was rejected and went, ahem, down west to pursue his career

Not at any price for me personally but at £1m that is an awful lot for a journeyman! ;)

He's a tidy player, but we need a winger with more pace.

Let's hope this isn't one of the benefits of Trollope being involved with the Welsh squad! :laughing6:

Much too expensive for an average player.

No thanks.

He is not what we want; a tattooed journeyman.

I'd be unhappy if he signed for us.

I'd take Hal Robson-Kanu, James Collins, Joe Ledley and Chris Gunter if Trollope could sort them out. :ayatollah:

No sorry, 1 million would be way too much to pay. On a free, if wages were fairly low, possibly.

We have enough players who are decent at this level, what we need are players who can "step up", and get better,,,not worse.

Agree. Can't see how he will improve the team. At that price, we should be able to get better than him.

How many caps would Cotterill have if he was English. Exactly the same number as Noone has.

Many Cardiff supporters seem to prefer journeymen that there own local/academy players? If we concentrated on producing players from our Catchment area and academy and keeping them we could add these players to our squad,Gunter,Matthews,Collins,Ledley,Cotterall,Ramsey and Bale! Surely this is the way to go in future rather than scanning the world for sub standard journeyman?

I agree, & im not reading to much into this latest rumor, however, if it does eventually turn out to be true, then there's only one person to look at.
