'His life was saved by French police': Friend of England fan with 'life-changing injuries' relives moment he was smashed on the head with metal poles by baying Russian hooligans in 'unprovoked attack'

A Portsmouth fan, also known as Pepe, Mr Bache was with a group of around six friends to watch the football, but he is now in hospital with potentially 'life-changing' injuries

Friends who witnessed the assault said Mr Bache was hit around five times over the head with what appeared to be an 'iron bar or hammer'

The Russians rampage through the streets by jogging in a military-style to towards their targets.
As they get closer to the English supporters they arm themselves with metal poles, chairs and beer bottles.
When they get the reaction and retaliation they are looking for they charge towards the England fans, smashing chairs and bottles off people's heads, punching them repeatedly and kicking and stamping on their victims' faces while they lay helplessly on the ground.
In a particularly shocking moment of violence, the footage shows the attack on 51-year-old England fan Andrew Bache, from Portsmouth, who was left in a coma.

OUR THOUGHTS ARE WITH ANDREW & HIS FAMILY

The Portsmouth fan, 51, suffered life changing injuries when he was repeatedly smacked over the head with what is believed to be a hammer or iron bar after reportedly being set on by the Russian thugs.

He was said to be “hovering between life and death” in a Marseilles hospital and it is likely he will be in a coma for days.

It is understood Andrew’s son Harry has since flown from Australia to visit his dad in France.

UEFA and the French Police are playing a dangerous game here. They almost seem to be waiting for someone to die before taking drastic action.

The charge on families in the stadium was a "Near Miss", people could have died there in the crush especially if that little barrier had given way.

UEFA and the Police were lucky this did not cause more injury, Russia should be expelled immediately.

There is a political element here, if they disqualify Russia in Euro 2016, it puts pressure on FIFA to take the World Cup off them.

Additionally the Police chief of France should stand up and say:
"Guys our number one priority is Terrorism, these hooligans are distracting us, we need to stay focused on number one priority, so lets ban teams whose fans start trouble and distract us ".

Even UEFA could have said before the competition, "France's priority is Terrorism, therefore any big incident and we disqualify the team immediately!!" After the Paris attacks, this is not a normal tournament.

When you look at Hillsborough, an inexperienced Leader made wrong decisions early on, before everything so horribly escalated. The French Police leadership should learn from this.

Too much Politics, not enough REAL leadership....

Although I am pro-EU, this really doesn't reflect well on pan-European leadership. There almost seems to be too much liberal compromise and not enough real Leadership. If they can't co-ordinate controlling some hooligans how on earth can we have confidence on the bigger things.

Sickening. Hopefully he'll make a full recovery.

Utter contempt for any morons who go to a football match looking for violence.
