" RUSSIA GIVEN SUSPENDED DISQUALIFICATION FROM EURO 2016 "

Tue Jun 14, 2016 11:19 am

Russia have been given a suspended disqualification from Euro 2016 over the crowd trouble at Saturday's game against England in Marseille.

Uefa, European football's governing body, has also issued Russia a 150,000 euro (£119,000) fine.

Uefa said the punishment will be imposed if similar incidents happen at any of Russia's remaining matches.

Groups of Russia fans are being deported from France after repeated scenes of violence at Euro 2016.

The suspended disqualification and fine only relates to incidents that occurred inside the stadium and are therefore under the jurisdiction of Uefa disciplinary bodies. The decision is open to appeal.

Russia were also charged over fan racism and fireworks being set off during the game.

It's a bit meaningless as it only covers incidents inside stadiums. They will simply carry on with their shite on the streets.

Would they be daft enough to do something in the stadium though?

It seems that this is a step closer for them to be ejected to me. If they pounce on Welsh and English fans leaving the ground on Thursday it would be ridiculous if they were allowed to continue in the tournament.

If large groups of fans simply go to cause trouble it is outrageous that they can continue to put a cloud over the tournament and ruin it for fans that just want to go and enjoy the football! :x

I think its quite clever really. It puts the onus on the Russian authorities to reign in their own. With the state of Russian sport generally in disaray I'm sure they won't wan't to see themselves banned.

So following the continuing problems with the Russian hooligans, what exactly is stopping this disqualification from being enforced?

Lack of balls by UEFA perhaps?
