'Give me hope, Joe Allen', chant the Wales fans to the tune of Eddy Grant's famous 1980s anti-apartheid anthem.

Well, Allen usurped even Aaron Ramsey as Wales' best midfielder on the day, pulling the strings in the engine room, tackling, hustling and getting forward far more than we normally see him to set up openings.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp prefers James Milner and Jordan Henderson in his team, but give me Allen ahead of those two any day of the week at international level.

Possession of the ball is the most precious quality at this level and Allen is a master of that. Against Slovakia, he showed he has a terrific engine too, covering every blade of grass over the 90 minutes.

Allen may be small by nature, but for Wales he was truly a giant during the course of these particular 90 minutes.

If he was an ex-city player this forum would be drooling over that performance.Immense shift yesterday.

Allen and James Chester were outstanding yesterday as was Jonny Williams while he was on the pitch.

In fairness Joe Allen had a great game.

That said its hard to think of anyone who didn't?

I would love him to move to La Liga, he would suit the style of play. Swansea City is the wrong move for him imo
