HANDS TIED AGAIN!

Tue Jun 07, 2016 2:13 pm

Newly appointed Charlton Athletic manager Russell Slade has confirmed that he doesn’t have 100% say on all transfers in and out of the club (talkSPORT). The former Cardiff City boss says that all deals will be an ‘open discussions’ but still insists he will have ‘huge influence’.

Addicks fans have become increasingly concerned about the running of the football club, with Roland Duchatelet and Katrien Meire coming under intensifying pressure as last season progressed last season.

Jose Riga left the club following the final day defeat to champions Burnley, with Slade being appointed last week no less than a month into his new role as head of football at the Cardiff City Stadium.

When asked if there was a specific clause in Slade’s Charlton contract saying he will have complete say over transfers, the ex-Grimsby Town and Yeovil Town boss says the past record of the owners’ involvement at The Valley didn’t put him off the job,

“Not really, because I believe in my own ability in the first instance.

“To leave Cardiff and come to Charlton was my decision, I instigated that. I thought it was a good opportunity to come to a club that maybe lost its way last season, but for me to get it back on its feet in the right direction.

“Picking the team is certainly in my contract. I will have huge influence over the comings and goings but it will be an open discussion.

“We got to work on a few targets yesterday. We’ve got a shortlist. (And) nobody will be leaving on the cheap.”

Chief Executive Meire insists that the club has entered a new chapter and they are hoping for a very bright future, after a disappointing recent past,

“Since the end of last season we were in discussion with several candidates and it became clear Russell was the best man for the job.

“One of the things we identified was appointing a manager instead of head coach.

“The appointment is the start of a new era. It’s the first time we’ve signed a manager on a three-year contract.”

Whatever your views on Slade it ain't our problem anymore but I expect he walked into that job with his eyes wide open.On a three year deal so if they sack him sooner they'll have to pay him up too.Nice for his retirement.

It's things like this and what Leeds have been going through that should make us super grateful for the effort Slade put in here, he stabilised this club alongside working with the board.

Obviously going through a lot of s**t with Tan and co past few years I think the past year they have actually seen the actual understanding of how football works especially in terms of money.. they are still learning and will make mistakes along the way but the main thing is the club after last season which I think was successful in the fact we over achieved in terms of position considering there are a lot of clubs who spent bucket loads to top 6 and some paid 5 million or more to be under us where we didn't have a pot to piss in this season.

With Slade's track record in the transfer market I think it's no bad thing,I would tie his feet as well just to be on the safe side

I fully agree with the above

Most clubs seem to have been stung over the past few years in the transfer market with agent fees and stupid wage demands. Those who ultimately pick up the tab (the owners) are perfectly entitled to control who comes in and who goes out.

Indeed any well run club will operate such a system.
