Here's what he had to say: "The numbers being talked about in a potential move to Arsenal show that the market is going potty.

"It is safe to say that signing him would have smashed our current wage structure and we are determined to buy players with good value in this mad market.

"With five bids in for players at the moment, we are hopeful that we can bring you some exciting news soon."

GRIEZMANN BACKS SIMEONE STAY

Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann believes coach Diego Simeone will stay on at the club.

Simeone expressed doubt over his future at the Vicente Calderon after they lost last month’s Champions League final, and PSG are reportedly keen to bring him to the French capital.

However, the Ligue 1 champions are unlikely to have any success in their pursuit of the Argentinian, with Griezmann confident Simeone is set to stay put.

“He will not leave,” Griezmann told beIN Sports. “I spoke with him and with regards to what he told me, I am nearly 100% certain that he will continue with us.

“I love working with him and if I continue at Atletico it’s because I want to continue working with him and with the team.”

LUKAKU ON CHELSEA SHORTLIST

Chelsea are interested in re-signing striker Romelu Lukaku, but any bid for the Belgian has been delayed by Everton’s search for a new manager.

The Daily Telegraph claims Lukaku wants to re-join Chelsea, but he has also attracted interest from Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid and Manchester United.

The 23-year-old could team up with Alvaro Morata on his return to Stamford Bridge, with the futures of Alexandre Pato, Loic Remy and Diego Costa leaving Chelsea with a potential striker shortage.

Lukaku scored 25 goals in 46 appearances for the Toffees last term, but he was unable to help Roberto Martinez keep his job at Goodison Park after the club finished the season in 11th position.

League One outfit Port Vale are reportedly in advances talks with 39-year-old Finnish manager Shefki Kuqi, according to Sky Sports.

Vale are currently managerless after previous manager Rob Page departed for Northampton Town, after Chris Wilder left his role as the Cobblers’ manager to move to Sheffield United, after guiding Town to the League Two title under spectacular circumstances.

After finishing 12th in League One last season, Vale are hoping that their new manager can push them on and get them ready for a play-off push.

Kuqi had a successful playing career, turning out for the likes of Ipswich, Newcastle and Crystal Palace, whilst making 62 appearances for Finland, but has very little managerial experience, having only begun his managerial career in 2014.

After spells with Finnish clubs FK Honka and PK-35 Vantaa, Kuqi could finally be ready for a shot at England, but for now, he is not the favourite, with Jose Morais currently the favourite to get the job on a permanent basis.

Liverpool are just ‘one step away’ from signing Porto midfielder Hector Herrera, according to reports in Mexico.

The 26-year-old had been on the brink of signing for Serie A side Napoli but Jurgen Klopp is reported to have made a late swoop for the Mexico international, with a move to Anfield now imminent.

If completed, Herrera would become the fourth signing of Klopp’s brief tenure on Merseyside following his capture of Joel Matip, Marko Grujic early this year, and Mainz goalkeeper Loris Karius earlier this summer.

Herrera is currently in action at the Copa America, where he scored Mexico's third goal in 3-1 victory over Uruguay on Monday.

ARSENAL FEAR VARDY SNUB

Arsenal are growing concerned that they may miss out on Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy, according to the Daily Mirror.

The Gunners’ inability to conclude a deal before Euro 2016 has led Arsene Wenger to fear the Foxes frontman could remain at the King Power Stadium.

Vardy’s £20million release clause has been triggered but that failed to yield the result Arsenal wanted, with the striker jetting off to Chantilly with Roy Hodgson’s England squad.

The stall in negotiations has reportedly given Leicester the chance to draft up an improved contract for Vardy, with the Premier League champions keen to keep hold of one of their prized assets.
