Cardiff City's summer transfer plans revealed as four new signings and mass clear-out expected

New Head Coach Paul Trollope has been given the green-light to bring in three or four new faces as he looks to secure a place in the Championship top six next season

Vincent Tan has discussed recruitment plans with Paul Trollope

Cardiff City are plotting a clutch of key signings this summer, but there are also plans for another mass clear-out too.

New head coach Paul Trollope has been given the green-light to bring in three or four new faces as he looks to secure a place in the Championship top six next season.

But, just as under his predecessor Russell Slade, the club are looking for a host of players to leave, with up to 12 expected to head for the exit.

But the club’s hierarchy believe there are still too many players at the club and that the Bluebirds’ wage bill remains unwieldy.

There are hopes of offloading up to 12 players to other clubs this summer with the focus on those who have failed to make a real impact for whatever reasons. Amongst the names already being tipped to go are misfiring strikers Adam Le Fondre and Federico Macheda.

:ayatollah: " The positions Cardiff want to strengthen " :ayatollah:

At this stage the Bluebirds have already identified the positions they want to add to.

A striker remains the main priority after the lack of goals under Slade last term. With Lex Immers now signed to a two-year deal following his successful loan spell from Feyenoord last season, the likelihood is that the new man might be asked to complement the Dutchman.

A speedy winger is also being sought with real concerns at the club over the lack of pace in the Cardiff side last term. The club are also looking at the possibility of bringing in a central midfielder too.

But we can reveal a new left-back may also be on the shopping list, which raises questions over the left-sided defenders already at the club.

Scot Malone regularly faced criticism for his performances last term and Brazilian Fabio, who fell out of favour with Slade on occasion, is entering the last year of his contract at the club.

The Bluebirds are keen to stress though that although work is underway on new signings, there may not be any more done deals now for at least a couple of weeks.

Fair comments...our squad is still way to big with far too many big earners not contributing a lot

Shambles would be and understatement lets hope I,m wrong but watching this great club is torture week in week out - club and fans are two worlds apart !!!!!! :bluescarf:

I agree 100%. Until Tan bites the bullet and just sets budgets for each department, employs a Director of Football who puts a better scouting system/infrastructure in place, nothing will change imo.

Most deals are done after 30th June because players contracts are up then, so no real surprise that there won't be much movement for a few weeks. Hopefully we can get shot of some of the deadwood for good then.

To be honest lads I think that way of running a football club is slowly biting the dust. The bigger the job the more people it takes. The modern trend I suppose.

Never thought about it, but, the recent appts at the club were all 1st time working at a football club.

Vincent Tan - 1st club investment - football exp, learn on the job (to his cost, don't piss off the fans)
Ken Choo - was an auditor for a company in Malaysia - football exp, learn on the job
Mehmet Dalman - Banker (some might like to edit the lettering) - football exp, learn on the job

= 3/4 of a transfer committee

I feel I am within my rights to compare Abramovich takeover of Chelsea and Tan's of Cardiff as they were both 1st time investors and billionaires.

One of the 1st signings of Chelsea was Peter Kenyon who had years of experience at one of the biggest clubs in the world, knew how to market the club properly, the rest is history. Chelsea became a large brand in it's own right.

How Tan went about it was baffling, completely bonkers

I think that players will have to go before others can be brought in.

Whilst I understand the logic behind that I think that we may have a real struggle getting rid of 12 players unless perhaps some of them are paid off like the foreign players were last season.

If we can't offload players quickly enough then we may well lose out on potential targets due to any delay.

A fine balancing act again and not an easy one.

Le Fondre wants to stay under Trollope which is interesting, rumours going about he is happy to give it a go here under a new manager after Wolves loan spell.

That's decent of him especially considering he has been garbage for the last 2 years, his career is going backwards and no team is interested in signing him

Whilst I was not a hater of Slade if anything I supported him up until the last few games when we had a chance of the playoffs, and I definitely admired him for proving a lot of people wrong, there is one thing I don't understand ?

He keeps getting the credit for the good job he did in offloading players ? Who during his spell was actually sold ? Yes plenty were loaned out which reduced the wage bill for a given time, but if those loaners come back we have to start paying them again surely ? So is that not just a sticking plaster exercise ?

Now I may be wrong as I said but who did he sell ? And surely the transfer committee should be selling and not just buying, so shouldn't they take the credit/blame for reducing/or not the wage bill ?

Or am I forgetting players sold last summer and January maybe ? (If so its old age I'm telling ya)

Sorry also for hijacking the thread.

Still a lot more squad trimming and cost cutting to be done. I think next season may be too soon to compete for promotion. The 17/18 season will be the comeback. :D

Just need patience.

Wolves fans posted on twitter at the end of the season awards about his future and said he is interested in who will take over at Cardiff, think it was a day or two after our last games they had end of season awards.
