After 58 years Wales have finally made it to another major tournament. The countdown is on!
Latest NewsMatch PreviewFollowing Wales' disappointing 3-0 defeat to Sweden in their warm up game last Sunday, they will be hoping for a strong start to their first major tournament since 1958.
Wales have never appeared in the EURO finals and first Group B opponents Slovakia are similarly inexperienced.
Wales make their UEFA European Championship debut against Slovakia in Bordeaux, a game that will hold particular resonance for Gareth Bale.
Slovakia had a stronger start to their pre tournament warmups, with them unbeated in three games including an emphatic 3-1 victory against Germany.

• While Slovakia have never before competed in a UEFA European Championship final tournament as an independent nation, as part of Czechoslovakia they appeared in three four-team finals.
• Czechoslovakia finished third in 1960 and 1980 and lifted the trophy in 1976. Eight of the 11 players who started the final against West Germany – and triumphed on penalties after a 2-2 draw – hailed from Slovakia.
• Slovakia reached the 2016 finals thanks mainly to wins in their first six Group C qualifiers, a run that included a 2-1 home triumph against Spain – the holders' first qualifying defeat in 36 matches and nine years.

Head to head• The only fixtures played between the teams came in qualifying for UEFA EURO 2008 and produced two unlikely scorelines. Slovakia beat Wales 5-1 in Cardiff in the first leg, with Wales winning 5-2 in the return away leg.
• Bale scored his first goal for Wales in the first meeting, in Cardiff, but Slovakia managed five, Dušan Švento getting the first and Róbert Vittek the fifth.
• That goal made Bale Wales' youngest ever scorer, aged 17 years, two months and 22 days – a record that still stands.
