It is understood that the Bluebirds hierarchy are keen for Trollope to continue being exposed to some of the top players and coaches in Europe

Cardiff City want their new boss, Paul Trollope, to continue his coaching role with Wales, WalesOnline can reveal.

Trollope was appointed Head Coach of the Bluebirds at the end of last season, with former manger Russell Slade shunted upstairs and made Head of Football. Although Slade has now left the club and is being linked with the vacant manager’s post at League One Charlton.

Trollope will have complete control of first team matters at the Welsh capital club and has already been told his minimum target next season in the Championship will be to secure a play-off place.

But concerns have been raised about how Trollope, who is new to management in the second-tier, will cope with his two roles on the go.

Trollope himself is yet to confirm his plans, but already, his boss at international level, Chris Coleman recently said he believed the 44-year-old would quit his roles with Wales to focus on his job with the Bluebirds.

“Let’s be honest, we are going to lose Paul Trollope,” said Coleman recently.

“He’s not said anything yet, but he can’t manage Cardiff and be with us. I would not expect him to. He’s got a tough job there now. It would be no surprise to me if there is a knock on the door.

Sources within the club say Trollope’s work with Wales can only improve him as a manager and coach. It is believed within the Bluebirds’ hierarchy that working with players like Gareth Bale and Aaron Ramsey will be beneficial for Trollope. They insist exposure to some of the top players and coaches in Europe this month could also help foster useful contacts.

The club though do remain uncertain how things might work next season if Trollope is away during international breaks in the Championship with Wales. A club source said the situation would be reviewed nearer the time.

I have a feeling we may see a change of plans before the season starts with somebody coming in as manager to work alongside Trollope in his head coach role

Surprising to hear that.

For me, he simply can't do both. When he accepted the Cardiff City job, he should have known he needed to not work with Wales anymore - even Coleman has admitted this.

Can understand him wanting to both, but actually being able to do both successfully would be very difficult for anyone.

I can only hope that common sense prevails, with the club and Trollope coming to terms with the fact that it wouldn't be a good idea.

don't think this would work out well for the team and i suspect results would show that but we can't even risk it imo.

i am a supporter of trollope as manager and think he could do well here, but if the club were so keen on him keeping his job with wales to get contacts and coach bale and ramsey then why didn't they just keep him as assistant manager? the manager needs to be around the club 24/7 not off on international duty and nowhere to be seen. Not all our players are gonna be on international dutys so he needs to be around to work with them not bale and ramsey because he's cardiff city manager not wales manager.

Trollope is not the manager !!!!!!!! He is the head coach. Whilst we are in the top 2 divisions we'll have a break during the international breaks as chunk of our squad depart to join their national mates.

A head coach doesn't wheel and deal any more, doesn't need to order the pies or check the XXL away replicas are in stock. He coaches the first team, who at best will have light training sessions with the other umpteen coaches at the club or have a weekend off to recuperate.

Agree, it's not as if he's travelling far to link up with the Welsh squad either. I haven't got a problem with it at present

That's kind of the way I see it and I think his presence in the Welsh set-up can benefit City. We will just have to see how it pans out I suppose.

Fulham had the same problem with Kit Symons and he had to quit eventually and I think Trollope will do the same.

Roy Keane was holding two jobs and he said it's just not possible to do, you'll always have one eye on international break when it's coming and we need a man who is fully concentrated on getting this club out of the division.

Trollope won't really have a choice I expect him to stand down after the Euro's.

How do the club think that him having two jobs and dividing his time between them rather than concentrating 100% on Cardiff is going to benefit the club?

Everything that's done by the club's hierarchy just continues to show that they do not have a f*cking clue about how football works.

Spot on, if Ken Choo is reading, "learn from the mistakes of others"!! Listen to the experts!!
You don't want to learn 15 games into the season when we have 16 points!

Sure, they might be some benefit from working with Gareth Bale, but Ken your STRATEGY should start with:
- MANAGE THE BASICS!! - there is nothing more basic than having a 100% focused Manager/Coach.

If the idea was to keep Trollope involved with Wales, then they should have kept him as Assistant and brought in another young manager to work with him - Lee Clark, Bellamy, Giggs, Karl Robinson....or even an old barn owl like Warnock...
