BREAKING: Novak Djokovic beats Andy Murray in the French Open final 3-6 6-1 6-2 6-4 to win the French Open for the first time in his career. He has now won all four Grand Slams in his career - French Open, US Open, Australian Open and Wimbledon.

Andy Murray's two Grand Slams remain the US Open and Wimbledon - both in 2013. This was Murray's first appearance in a final in the French Open, and the first British man to do so since 1937.

UPDATED

Andy Murray has made it to his first French Open final after a 6-4 6-2 4-6 6-2 win over defending champion, Stan Wawrinka.

He will play Novak Djokovic in Sunday's final.

An absolutely brilliant player we won't see a better British player in our lifetime and will only be truly recognised once he's long retired from the sport

If he was English everyone would be going mad for him

Wimbledon champion
US open champion
Olympic champion
Davis cup winner

Only one of 10 players to make all 4 grand slam finals

Most successful British player ever massive achievements and arguably should have won more slams being a beaten finalist on 7 other occasions!

He'll lose the Novak again no doubt.

He beat him last time they played, and that was on clay as well.

AS much as I like Murray and is a great player I think he'll do well to take a set off Novac(forget how to spell his surname)who is the finest player ever to raw breath IMHO.

US Open W (1990, 1993, 1995, 1996, 2002)

It will be tough for him and the sensible bet would be on Djokovic, perhaps in straight sets.

But I have a feeling Murray will do it. Today he stepped up to another level, compared to anything else we've ever seen him do on clay.

Either way, he's done very very well. As Smakerz says, he is far and away the best ever British player in the Open era and will be for many many years.

djokovic will not make the mistakes wawrinka made. thats probably the worse i've seen wawrinka play.

i fully expect another djokovic win.

Unbelievable effort by Murray, what a player.

Djokovic is the favourite, but Sunday's final has echoes of the final in Rome a few weeks ago. Djokovic played matches on consecutive days without a break leading up to the final, while Murray was able to have a day off between matches. And of course, Murray won in straight sets. Hopefully, it'll happen again.

Great player and best on grass but of his time and overall not as good IMO.

Sampras was fantastic but federer nadal and Djokovic would have beaten him no problem if they were in the same era

Says a great deal about those 3 and. Now Murray that 4/10 that have mad every slam final play in the same era shows how they've dominated the sport last 10 years quite amazing really, while Sampras was about other players were winning slams up until 2 years ago federer Djokovic nadal and Murray had won something like 38 slams between them consecutively absolute madness

Because he's shit. A good 4th rank. But no where near the class of real top players. He get smashed again in final and find something to blame.

2nd best in the rankings, and considerably better than all those below him.

Re: " Andy Murray "

2nd because nadal and federer are on they way down. Miles behind novac. When all 4 performing well he was a very distant 4th place. He's unlucky his age put him such a golden era or men's tennis. Ten year before he would have won a lot more but against easier competition. If he was around when Sampras was playing he would have had a share of a lot more titles.

He Lost 7 of 9 of grand slam finals losing the first 3 in straight sets the 4 th 3-1 feder has won more grand slams against Murray than Murray has won in total. Massively over rated.

This year he has improved drastically, despite losing the final again in Australia. This French Open, it's the best I've ever seen him play on clay. Hope he wins tomorrow, but it will be difficult.

No doubting that Djokovic is far and away the best, and I think he can continue at his current level for many more years - unfortunately for Murray.

Shit? Is that you Novak?

Murray has been competing (and winning titles) in an era with Federer, Nadal & Djokovic - arguably the best three players that have ever played the game. Says a lot about his talent and ability.

But, hey ho, easier to knock him eh - as we do so often in this country when someone is successful.

Couldn't agree more the best British player we'll ever seen as played most of his career in the shadow of arguably 3 of the greatest players of all time and still won majors!!

People don't realise how good Murray actually is and had he played in another era he'd probably have won a lot more majors

I said that in an earlier post. But he hasn't played I. Another era he played in this one and that's what he gets judges on. Like you said he's played in the shadows of others. He's good but he's not carling. He like James wade will pop up win a major now and then but really has no chance if others are all on top form.

Not really wasn't good enough played the first set as he should aggressive got passive in the next two and desevered to lose

He's still a brilliant player I'm sure he'll get another slam but he is not as good as Novak plain and simple but head and shoulders above the rest at the moment

Re: UPDATED " Andy Murray/Novak Djokovic "

Sun Jun 05, 2016 8:59 pm

Not head and shoulders. He brilliant compared to me but not brilliant compared to top pros. Hence ony 2 wins in 10 finals. Even a blind squirrel finds a nut now and then.
