Report: Swansea on verge of American takeover
by Michael J. Chandler
Thursday Jun 02, 2016
Swansea City is poised to become the latest Premier League side to embrace American ownership, with a £110-million takeover from businessmen Jason Levien and Steve Kaplan set to be finalised next week.
The two new majority shareholders are expected to fly to London next week to cement the deal by completing the Premier League's owners' and directors' test, according to Lyall Thomas of Sky Sports.
Final approval of the duo could take up to 10 days, meaning Levien and Kaplan's purchase of 60 percent of the club could be made by June 10.
The Welsh side's ownership is currently split among five parties, with the Swansea City Supporters Trust holding a 20 percent share, and the remaining four owners each boasting no more than a 22.5 percent cut. Chairman Huw Jenkins holds a 12.5 percent share
It's expected that both the Supporters Trust and Jenkins will maintain their respective shares, with Jenkins likely to stay on as chairman.
Levien and Kaplan's stake is worth a reported £110 million, with expected investment in the Liberty Stadium, staff, and facilities understood to be between £30 million and £50 million.
Swansea City will not be the American pair's first foray into professional sports. Levien is managing owner of MLS side D.C. United, and was the former chief executive of the NBA's Memphis Grizzlies. Kaplan is a minority owner of the Grizzlies.

Chelsea have made a £23m bid for Roma defender Antonio Rudiger, reports Il Tempo in Italy.
The Germany international signed for Roma earlier this week, making his loan move from Stuttgart permanent.
But a number of reports in Italy claim it will only be stop-gap for Rudiger, with Liverpool, Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus all interested.
For Roma's part, they would stand to make a considerable profit from the transaction, having paid around £8m to sign Rudiger permanently.

RYAN GIGGS UPDATE
02/06/16
Ryan Giggs’ future at Man Utd remains in the balance this afternoon after it emerged that the 42-year-old has not been offered a new role at Old Trafford – and is yet to receive any information from the Red Devils or Jose Mourinho as to his future at the club.
Reports that Giggs has been offered a role as a bridge between the first team and the U21s are inaccurate, Sky Sports believe.
The Welshman remains on holiday in Dubai today – he’s due to return at the weekend - and to date has heard nothing from senior figures at the club as to what they want him to do, following Louis Van Gaal sacking 11 days ago.
SSN understands that as of this morning, no meetings have been scheduled to clarify his situation.
Giggs, who joined United on his 14th birthday, has a year left on his contract.
