Breaking News Sky Sports

The Stade de France was one of the targets of the horrific November terror attacks

The head of the EU's law enforcement agency Interpol says the Euro 2016 tournament is an 'obvious' target for Islamic State (IS) terrorists.

But Rob Wainwright says the French authorities are mounting a massive security operation in an attempt to ensure that any potential attacks are thwarted.

Wainwright was speaking after the US government issued a travel alert to Americans on Tuesday, warning of the risk of potential attacks across Europe.

It would be naive not to prepare for a terrorist attack but it would also be a high risk and waste of resources for terrorist groups attempting to breach such high levels of security. They tend to focus their attacks when threat levels are lower and tend to target the less obvious events. When was the last time a major sporting event was exposed to a terrorist attack? The 1972 Olympics in Munich? I appreciate the Boston Marathon had the bombings but that is not technically regarded as a globally significant event.

Basically, it makes sense to prepare high security because it acts as a deterrent but I hope nobody going to watch the games is struck down by fear. If you are then the terrorists have already won. Have fun and enjoy it if you're heading out! :ayatollah: :bluescarf:
