Roberto Di Matteo is set to become Aston Villa's new manager on a £35,000-a-week contract.

And I don't see them going straight back up even with him! Villa are in a very big mess!

di matteo is not what they need at this moment in time IMO, but he will have a great chance due to the amount of money they look likely to chuck at the cause. they need someone who knows this level and can do a good job of getting them out and establishing them back in the PL, in the same way allardyce did at west ham.

To be fair to Di Matteo, he has got WBA out of the Championship before, so he does know what it takes. But like what has been said, Villa are in a right mess with their squad and needs a massive overhaul. I don't think Di Matteo is the right type of boss to sort Villa out.

Steve Clarke as his assistant, I can see Villa being in the mix for promotion now.

i dont. he doesnt strike you as someone who will whip a demoralised, arrogant bunch into shape. he lacks substance as a manager too, in my opinion. villa would be a much more serious promotion threat under someone like pearson or mccarthy IMO.
