Sky Bet report that Russell Slade is now 1/4 from 1/2 following a large wager to take the vacant job at Charlton Athletic.

" RUSSELL SLADE "

Former Cardiff City boss Russell Slade looks set to have an immediate return to management after the odds on him becoming Charlton boss tumbled to 1-4 ON.

Slade lost his post in charge of the Bluebirds' first-team after Cardiff's failure to make the top six and was instead handed a new Head of Football title.

But it has been unclear how the new role will work, with Cardiff's hierarchy stressing Slade will have nothing to do with the team affairs run by Paul Trollope.

Reports in Lancashire say Slade is on Blackburn's short-list as they too seek a new manager, but it is believed he has had an interview to become Charlton boss.

On Tuesday morning, Slade suddenly leapfrogged Charlton skipper Johnnie Jackson in the betting to become new manager at The Valley.

Slade has strong links with London, having bossed Leyton Orient before joining the Bluebirds.

Charlton were relegated to League One in the season just gone and are seeking a man capable of getting the team pushing at the top end of the table in 2016-17.

Former Northampton boss Chris Wilder had been the initial favourite for the job, but he eventually turned down their approach and joined Sheffield United.

Rochdale boss Keith Hill was then linked, but Slade is the hot favourite.

Perfect for Russell Slade, he still has a lot of contacts there.
And Still has his home near by.

Don't blame him if he took the job if it's offered to him

Bit of a waste of time giving him the head of football role if he buggers off within a few weeks

Let's hope if he gets the job he can beat off Borussia Dortmund and make Scott Malone his first signing!

Concern with slade taking another managerial role is that he will almost certainly try and poach some of our better players.

 I'm sure Bruno Manga would love to drop down to league 1 with Charlton to work with Slade again.

Maybe 'better' isn't the right word, 'most promising', might be more accurate.

May not be a bad thing if he helps us shift people like doyle. Would worry he might pinch some of the better reserves looking to break into the first team.

Yes, I would hazard a guess the top brass at our club were surprised Slade accepted the offer after being told he is not wanted as manager
