BLACKBURN Rovers have interviewed Russell Slade about becoming the club’s new manager.

But Rovers owners Venky’s could face competition for Slade should they decide he is the boss they want to succeed Paul Lambert.

Charlton Athletic, who are newly relegated into League One, have also targeted the 55-year-old.

Slade is determined to make a swift return to frontline management after losing his job as Cardiff City boss.

The two-time League One manager of the year led Rovers’ Championship rivals to an eighth-placed finish this season.

But before the campaign was out the Bluebirds confirmed that Slade would be moved to a head of football role.

The former Leyton Orient boss has since been replaced in the Cardiff City Stadium hotseat by his coach Paul Trollope.

Rovers have also interviewed Manchester United Under-21 manager Warren Joyce about the possibility of replacing Lambert.

I don't think Russell Slade will be at Cardiff for much longer Annis.

Nor do I Carl and I can't blame him, he has NO say at all at Cardiff.

For me Charlton would suit him perfect :ayatollah:

My thoughts exactly Annis, I would assume Slade still has a home in London so Charlton would suit him perfectly in that respect.

I wonder what will happen with the 'Head of Football' role at City, if and when, Slade leaves?

If true (that he has been interviewed), it makes his tenure in any capacity at Cardiff City FC pretty untenable and will (sort of) confirm what most people thought after his move upstairs, i.e. that the new job was created out of thanks/respect from our owner

I seem to recall his original comment on taking the new City job was something like: "I wouldn't have taken it if I didn't believe in the long-term project"

It seems he'll get one of the jobs. If not, then certainly another. If so, he deserves it and I wish him well :ayatollah:

Much maligned at City but (in fairness) he turned most fans opinions of him around once he had his rant mid-season and that in itself (changing fans minds) isn't easy! :laughing6:

If, as reported, it has nothing to do with the first team, then step forward Scott Young.

Bluebirds' Head of Football Slade and Manchester United under-21 boss Warren Joyce on the shortlist to replace Paul Lambert at Ewood Park

Russell Slade applauds the fans as he and the players make their way around the Cardiff City StadiumFormer Cardiff first team boss Russell Slade

Former Cardiff City boss Russell Slade has been interviewed for the vacant manager’s job at Blackburn, reports in Lancashire suggest.

Charlton Athletic, who are newly relegated into League One, are also said to have targeted the 55-year-old who has been moved upstairs at the Bluebirds to a newly-created Head of Football role.

Slade's former first team coach Paul Trollope takes responsibility for the Cardiff team next season.

Slade was told he would have no involvement in first team matters any more and it looks as if he may get the chance of a swift return to front-line management.

Blackburn have reportedly also interviewed Manchester United under-21 manager Warren Joyce about the possibility of replacing Paul Lambert.

No idea Annis but I'm assuming he knows if he took the job? If he didnt then thats his fault. Would you take a job not knowing what it was?

The way people talk is like we are keeping him here against his will. He choice was to take the job whatever it wass he didn't have to take it.

If he leaves we should ask for the same compensation we paid for him otherwise what was the point in offering him the job.

I don't think it's a real job. Sure, there will be things he can do, and I'm certain he will fulfill the duties with professionalism and add value to the team, but in reality I see the conversation between Tan and Slade going something like this:

VT: Thanks for your service, we're looking for something else next season, but since you have saved me money and acted with integrity, I will allow you to leave with grace instead of firing you. Accept this 'made up' role and then resign when you have been offered something more fitting to your ambition.
RS: OK.

Luke, NO I wouldn't but Slade really has and thats why he's desperately looking now for a real job.
