SULLIVAN: HAMMERS SEEKING STRIKER

West Ham joint-chairman David Sullivan says signing a “top striker” is the main priority this summer.

The Hammers saw a bid rejected for Lyon’s Alexandre Lacazette and have also been linked with Liverpool’s Christian Benteke.

“We know that we need a top striker which is the hardest thing to sign,” Sullivan told the club website. “We need a 20-goal-a-season striker and that will cost us £25m or £30million. That is where the bulk of the money goes.

“We also need the occasional long shot which is the cheaper player that may come good. We want to sign more players."

STAM TALKS HIT SNAG

Talks between Reading and Jaap Stam about the managerial vacancy at the Madejski hit a problem late last night, according to the Daily Mail.

Stam, 43, is currently the assistant boss with Ajax and keen to launch his own managerial career, with the Royals eager to hand the Dutchman his big chance.

But they will first have to overcome the hurdle which disrupted what are believed to be advanced negotiations, although talks are set to resume between both parties this weekend to get the deal back on.
