" EX-CITY MANAGER IN FRAME AT BLACKPOOL "

Tue May 24, 2016 1:38 pm

Dave Jones has emerged as the new favourite to become the next manager of League Two side Blackpool.

Tuesday 24th May 2016

The Tangerines are on the lookout for a new manager after Neil McDonald departed following their relegation out of League One a few weeks ago.

Jones has been out of management since his time at Sheffield Wednesday. Since then, he has looked to get back into the game, and even applied to become the head coach of the Ivory Coast national team this time last year.

The 59-year-old has been out of the managerial hot-seat for just under three seasons now and hasn’t managed as low as League Two at any point in his career. His last few job roles have been at Championship level, but getting a job in that league at this stage is highly unlikely for him.

He has managed over 800 times in professional football, starting off from his early days in the dugout at Stockport County, where he guided the club into the second-tier of English football. He then enjoyed separate three-year spells at Southampton and Wolverhampton Wanderers, before his lengthy stay at Cardiff City.

His final management job came in the form of a 81-game spell at Hillsborough.

Plenty of names have been linked to the managerial vacancy at Bloomfield Road. Former midfielder and club legend Keith Southern is someone who would like to speak to Karl Oyston about the role and feels he has something to offer.

However the emergence of Jones as favourite with Sky Bet has to be taken notice of.

The former Cardiff City boss is now the bookies favourite to take over at Blackpool.

The Tangerines will of course play in League Two next season, with their owners at fans and complete loggerheads.

Won’t be an easy job, that one.

DJ could only dream of the money ole and malky had and not having to sell every year to get by yet you and others call him the nearly man :laughing6:

Id have him back tomorrow atleast we will see some attacking flair even if we might be 4-0 up at half time and draw 4-4, I'll never forget that peterborough game :laughing5:
