I don't blame the club, 4 ankle injuries in 2 years why keep a sicknote on

Ben Turner: Defender says no negotiations held with Cardiff City prior to release

Ben Turner says no negotiations were held between him and Cardiff City prior to his release, despite being willing to take a pay cut.

The 27-year-old suffered two injury-plagued seasons and was released along with Kenwyne Jones on Monday.

"There were never any negotiations. I won't say I was surprised but I'm genuinely disappointed," Turner said.

"I would have been open to structure my contract in a way that would have suited me and the club."

Turner returned from a loan spell with former club Coventry City in December after injuring his ankle for the fourth time in 16 months.

He made one appearance for the Bluebirds in 2015-16 in their end-of-season 1-1 draw with Birmingham but was told by chief executive Ken Choo he could find another club in January.

"Ken was honest, he said it was a business decision by the club and he thinks it's best that I look elsewhere," he told BBC Wales Sport.

"It doesn't make it any less disappointing for me. I've been at the club for five years and the first three years I didn't miss a beat. The disappointing thing is that I feel that the operation I have had now is what I've needed all along where I've got the right support in my ankle to go forward.

The defender continued, "I was hoping I'd be offered something and there could be a different way of structuring my deal.

"I wanted the chance to prove myself again and I'm going to have to do that elsewhere but that's life and it's disappointing."

Despite not playing many games in the last two campaigns, Turner believes he will be signed by a new club and prove his fitness.

"I'm confident I'll find another club. As far as I'm concerned, if my ankles are okay. I will be playing next season, make no mistake about it," Turner added.

"Whether at Cardiff or a new club, I have to prove myself in terms of my fitness but in terms of everything else, I still offer what I have done before."

Wez, I told you in a previous post Turner wanted to stay and be given a chance with a new deal. I believe he was worth giving a one year deal :ayatollah:

We have some fans complaining about our club wasting money on things it doesn't need to, and yet some of those same fans now say we should've offered Turner a new deal. I need to stop being surprised by how contradictory some of our supporters are.

Turner barely kicked a ball for us since our relegation from the Premier League. In that time, two seasons have passed, and two managers have been let go. Turner has been a waste of money during that time, and whilst I'm grateful for the effort he put in during our promotion year, his ability level simply does not justify the money we have wasted on him the past two years, nor does it justify another contract.

He'll find a club, I've no doubt about that. But it will be lower half Championship or League One.

He has a 'leader' personality, players of his ilk hard to find?

To be honest, I don't like Morrison as much because of the utter shite he has come out with in his time here, pardon the expression :laughing6:

' COVENTRY CITY FANS WANT BEN TURNER '

Cardiff City have today confirmed that former Coventry City defender Ben Turner will leave the club this summer.

The 27-year-old joined Cardiff from City for £750,000 in August 2011 and went onto establish himself as a key man with the Bluebirds.

However injuries have taken their toil and he spent time back on loan at City last season.

Mowbray is known to be keen on recruiting the powerful defender but wages could be an issue with interest expected from another Championship clubs.

We asked Sky Blues supporters if City should target Turner this summer. An overwhelming 90 per cent of fans voted that would like to see him back at the Sky Blues.

People saying keep Bug Ben on are either blind or perhaps forgot to take their medication recently - the man has been injured for best part of 2 years ffs!!!

I absolutely get the affection for Ben - my idea of a no-messing centre half (my boyhood idol was Don Murray) but his weight, height, position, style of play and medical history all point to a high likelihood of future injury.

Don't slag the club off boys - hard to take but we have to let Big Ben go now.

Sounds like he may have even been willing to do a pay as you play.

A wholehearted player who never gives less than 100% and, in my opinion, one of MM better signings but sadly the last two seasons have left HUGE question marks over his long term fitness. Because of this I think the club has this absolutely right as the days of having expensive players who cannot play on a regular basis have long gone.

For many fans he will be remembered for the long ball or hoofball, and to others it will be that goal in the League Cup Final, but I will always remember him for being the committed defender who would not be bullied, a defender who led by example and how we have missed his leadership over the last two seasons.

I will always remember his fantastic performance against Villa in our PL season when he seemed to get a block, tackle or header on every single Villa attack and on the evening made Benteke look like a pussy. Although the game ended 0-0, in my opinion, we owed that point to Ben Turner. For some reason 4 days later OGS dropped him and replaced him with Cala for a must win game against Hull, which we ended up losing 4-0.

A true professional who never let anyone down and I wish him the very best for the future.

.A fit Ben Turner is a big asset...but he's only played a handful of games in 2 seasons

I agree with the club on this one...we have no room for sentiment costs have got to be cut and they just cut a big cost

Good luck to him he will find a new club no problem

Play as you play deal I would of kept him on but with his injuries I wouldn't risk just a straight forward 1 year deal.

keep Turner, keep Manga - perfect combination in both boxes. Let Connolly go to full back and chuck Malone out!

Unwanted Cardiff City defender Ben Turner speaks out: 'I wanted to stay but club wouldn't even negotiate'

Tuesday 24th May 2016

The 28-year-old defender was released by the club on Monday after nightmare season of injury struggle and says he would have taken a pay cut if it allowed him to stay in south Wales

Ben Turner has spoken of his disappointment at being forced to leave Cardiff City after revealing the club were unwilling to even begin negotiations over a new deal.

The 28-year-old defender was released on Monday after a nightmare season of injury struggle and says he would have taken a pay cut if it allowed him to stay in south Wales.

"There were never any negotiations. I won't say I was surprised but I'm genuinely disappointed," Turner told the BBC.

"I would have been open to structure my contract in a way that would have suited me and the club."

Turner was loaned to Coventry City late last year after finally recovering from a fourth ankle injury in the space of just 16 months, but he failed to convince the Bluebirds he was worthy of a place in the team or a new deal when he returned in December.

The decision to release Turner brings to an end a five-year stay at the club which saw him make 121 appearances, including 31 in the Premier League campaign.

A story out of nothing really.

I appreciate that he was willing to do that and thank him for his huge efforts here,, it's unfortunate position for him to be in and us as he very much a respected and loved person by the supporters and seemed like he was respected by the team who was with him. He is someone a lot of supporters will remember.

At the end of the day what's there to negotiate? We sadly don't want to keep him so he gets moved on.

A wise move by the club because I don't want us to end up like Arsenal who keep players like Diaby, Arteta and Rosicky who are way past there sell by date and costing the club stacks of money purely because they are top professionals and are genuine hard workers.

I agree been a good servant to the club can't see why he can whinge about anything. If he thought any better maybe he could have taken a pay cut when he wasn't playing? Horses for courses :ayatollah:

Always liked him but its a no brainer with all his injuries and a huge chunk off the wage bill. We cant trust he is going to be fit so would still have to replace him so whats the point.

Wish him well tho :ayatollah: :bluebird:
