No Fan Zones in Cardiff for Euro 2016

Sat May 21, 2016 9:06 am

I think this is disgusting by the council not setting up a fan zone for the tournament like they did with the rugby.

Maybe this forum could organise a petition to cardiff city to persuade the club to organise a fan zone at the ground themselves . After all it is the home of welsh football and the pitch is allready covered ?

Would be great to have something at the stadium

As long as the games don't clash with any other events at the stadium then I really can't see why there should not be a fan zone! It all makes sense to have one :old:

Probably don't want pissed up football fans in city centre? but it's okay to have drunken rugby fans pissing anywhere they like in town!!!

I wonder if there will be a massive football sticking out of the wall of the castle during the tournament?

Obviously my tax money can only be used for egg related events in the city, not football.

Like trying to compare apples and pairs. Cardiff hosted World Cup matches for the rugby so a bit different. Don't understand the childish bitterness they have something I want something. Pathetic. Fans zones are awful things for plastics anyway. In my opinion.

Well your entitled to your opinion and you dont have to use it.
A lot of people like them and want a place to watch the games on a large screen with thousands of other fans in a good atmosphere.
The fan zones are for plastic comment is not even worth a decent reply

I agree the plastics thing isn't worth the comment. Only threw it in there because according to some on here you a plastic if you don't dedicate you life to a club.

No Fans zones for such a historical occasion for Welsh football is a sad affairs and a bad reflection on the local authorities here in Cardiff. The nation should be proud to be part of such a significant sporting occasion and Cardiff council should be supportive to faciitate an opportunity to celebrate together the success of the Welsh Football team . The excuse to suggest No finances are available is laughable when money can be found for other Cardiff initiatives which are less appealing.

Fortunately for me I am fortunate to be attending a match in France and am so excited at the prospect of supporting our national football team especially as they have not been in such a high profile tournement for so may years . Unfortunately many Welsh people can not either afford to travel to France or could not secure tickets to attend games and therfore its only right to celebrate as a small nation and allow football supporters in Wales to be part of such a special event,

Wishing the Welsh FA all the very best in France 2016 and lets all hope Cardiff Council begin to show more interest and passion to accomodating Fan zones in Cardiff .

Whats your thoughts add to this thread in hope some one will take interest !!!!!!

See article above which has a link to a petition.

I know Plaid Cymru have been lobbying for them to be set up. As far as I'm aware, both the Welsh Gov and FAW are in favour of them. However, it is down to individual councils to do something about it.

Doesn't surprise me in the slightest sadly. An opportunity for our city to capitalise on creating a fan zone, welcoming tens of thousands of Welsh football fans, creating a vast amount of increased revenue for our city; but they can't upset their darling - rugby, can they? :(

A good point and whilst I appreciate the last rugby tournament had some games played in Cardiff's Millennium Stadium (or whatever its now called) you would think that they (the FAW) would seize the opportunity to make some money by opening up the city's fantastic facilities to the fans who not going to France

It would also be a great opportunity for the political sycophants in the Welsh Assembly to promote themselves via the Wales football team in their first tournament finals since 1958 (if only for their own ends) ;)

Just been trying to get from Pontprennau to Llanishen but it's virtually impossible with all the road closures today.

Fine for the Council to shut the city down so that a bunch of lycra clad twunts can spend a day dawdling around on their bicycles.
