' New Aston Villa owner looking to re-name Villa Park

He's only been there five minutes and is looking to adorn the stadium with the name of his health food business and will then try to appease fans by promising lots of money for new players.

New Aston Villa owner Dr Tony Jiantong Xia is considering plans to rebrand Villa Park upon completion of his takeover of the club, according to a report in the Beijing Times.

The Chinese businessman, 39, this week bought Villa from American Randy Lerner, who had been looking to sell since 2014.

As part of the drive to try to get Villa promoted back to the Premier League as soon as possible, Xia is considering changing the name of the Villa Park - the club's home since 1897 - possibly to incorporate his health food business.

He told the Beijing Times: "One of the things we have thought about is using the Lotus Health name to rebrand Villa Park.

"Villa Park is a very historical stadium, so we will not simply and callously destroy a club's history.

"We want to use Villa's history and its' substantial fan base around the world to also promote Lotus Health products and services globally.

"The ideal scenario would be for fans to enjoy Lotus Health products at Lotus Villa Park, it would be a great advert for both brands."

Any such change to the name of Villa Park could run the risk of angering supporters and the report also claims that Xia will try to get fans on side by promising major investment in the transfer market.

I wouldn't wish what happened to us on any fan. But if it does, maybe it will resonate that many many many City fans did
Not sell their soul.
There are 1000s of City fans who have never come back since that day.
Trouble is their missing numbers were lost be new fans and premier league fans who themselves have gone too.

If Villa Park has a name change, let's see how that will affect their crowd (if they are pushing for promotion or pushing for relegation)

Stop paying the players so much. Perhaps we wouldn't be toys for foreign billionaires then! :bluescarf:

You'd think that lessons would have been hard learned through what happened with us. More money than sense. I hope their fans nip it in the bud early as the stadium name change will be just the start.

Big club Villa with big fan base. He won't have it as easy rebranding Villa as Tan did down here.

Reading carefully the statement it looks on face value he actually knows the importance of clubs history, and the name he used in keeping villa park name prominent without devaluing it :old:
