BENITEZ TALKS ‘ADVANCED’
Newcastle remain in advanced talks with Rafa Benitez about the Spaniard staying on as manager next season, according to Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie.
The former Liverpool boss has not yet finalised a deal to remain in charge of the Magpies in the Championship, but pen could be put to paper very soon.
"Those talks began last week when Lee Charnley met Rafa Benitez at the training ground for the first time," Downie said. "Then came a meeting after Sunday’s match with Tottenham with owner Mike Ashley, who was impressed in that two hour chat.
"Then Charnley has travelled down to the headquarters of Sports Direct to meet with Ashley to finalise the finer details of this contract.
"That is what is holding this one up. There is a willingness, as I understand it, from both Benitez and Newcastle to get this deal signed."
