I'm a sugar/chocolate/sweet addict

Tue May 17, 2016 1:00 pm

I've recently made the decision to cut back to a minimum on ready meals, takeaways (unhealthy ones), chocolate, crisps, sweets and anything else that basically holds a lot of added sugar. On top of this I'm mainly just eating 3 meals per day and have cut out snacking in between. I did eat far too much sugar before and could easily eat 2-3 choc bars a day, crisps, ready meals and puddings, food with a thick layer of grilled cheese on top lol, pizzas etc etc etc! So as you can see not just all about sugar but in the main many of these foods have got added sugar in. I dont drink or smoke (maybe 2 drinks per year) and many of you will probably tell me to go and get a life and live a little but this is exactly what I want to do - I'm no expert on dieting and have never followed any specific diet plan I have a fair idea myself of what is healthy and what is not. I was slim as a youngster and fit although due to a problem with my heart electric signals/racing I do exercise that is light but not strenuous such as a 100 metre sprint or cycle up hill at full throttle otherwise I'll probably end up with a heart rate of 200 bpm In the ditch at the road side and then God knows after that. Over the last few years I've noticed the weight going on and I've gone up a couple of jeans sizes and the Cardiff shirts do t look as good on my as they used to as all you can see is my belly! Lol. I've never been much of a fizzy drink fan but like fruit juice which is good for you in moderation but can also supply you with lots of sugar and some of them have a lot of added sugar in too! So it was like a flick of a switch one day I woke up and thought I want to live longer (unless something else gets me first) and want to avoid Heath probs such as diabetes obesity other heart problems etc etc. One day I just woke and thought this is it I need to change my diet and do more exercise at a sensible pace. So I have and this started about 6 weeks ago. I'm eating more veg esp greens, fruit in moderation (2 portions per day), cooking things such as chicken or fish. A great meal is smoked haddock, poached egg, spinach cooked with a little parsley sauce. Breakfast cereals with a limited sugar in etc etc etc. Also quorn is very good too and tastes good too. I've had a few treats along the way but I can count these on 1 hand. A couple of choc bars, 2 ice creams and a pizza all in 6 weeks the rest of my food intake being healthy and the results are amazing! For a start I look better, my face appears clear no blemishes and a better colour, more energy even though there's limited sugar in my diet, the weight has fallen of me (although I realise I have to be careful not to go the other way), my body is more toned as I've been exercising everyday and in general I feel great. I'd imagine it must be doing wonders inside too. There's just one problem and that is the sweet cravings are still the same! Perhaps they are a little less than to start with but I'll eat a meal and then it'll be like someone is constantly saying right now - lets get icecream and hot choc fudge brownie etc etc! And to say no is extremely difficult but I succeed most of the time! I know this is a really long old story but thought it may help people if others are looking to do the same or perhaps people may have some advice to stop the cravings! It's a weird one I know as usually this conversation is usually dominated by a group of women but I'm sure it is important to some men too!

Lots of people of my age can probably relate to the same thing (35-40) year olds and mid age spread fast approaching but all I can see is if I've gone up 2 jeans sizes in 1-2 years what will I be like in 5 years time! Lol

I know your thinking what s this idiot doing on a football forum, but seriously I just need to know how to Curb sugar cravings. Every time I eat a meal I'm like I need sugar after it! It's worse when city are playing poor as I used to sit there and eat crap if I was bored! (The year we got promoted I was slim) come to mention it, the weight has gone on since we were relegated! The club have got to take some accountability for that! Shame on them for forcing me to scoff choc bars during a match because it's boring! Lol. In all seriousness though I firmly believe that in general a healthy diet can add years onto your lifetime as long as something else doesn't get u first! It's just these sugar cravings are hard to fight off! :happy1:

Crystal Meth is not an alternative to sugar addiction as it has a devastating effect on all of your vital organs and dramatically shortens your life span. That said, you don't see many fatties on it.

Extra minty gum .... You will be continuously chewing and also I find sweets chocolate or any food tastes a lot worse after gum/brushing my teeth. Also sugar free squash, just fill up litres of water and add some flavour with the squash and have some instead of eating when you get a craving.

Also just get up and go out, if you 100 meter spring your heart rate is going to be stupidly high, just hard walks up hill will help you to lose weight
