Paul Trollope and three outside candidates are the only men remaining in the hunt to succeed Russell Slade at Cardiff City
Cardiff City’s hunt for a new head coach is coming to a conclusion with the club drawing up a final short-list of just four names, we can reveal.
One of those is current coach Paul Trollope, while the rest are all external candidates believed to have excelled during interviews.
Eighteen candidates have been interviewed over recent days in a process described as ‘very positive and exciting’ by a source within the Welsh club.
It remains unclear when a final decision will be made about the appointment, with owner Vincent Tan set to have the final say, but there are still hopes the new man might be in place before the end of the week.
There seems to be some debate within the Bluebirds’ hierarchy as to whether to promote Trollope from within or whether to bring in a new man from outside the club.
Club chiefs are aware Trollope’s appointment might not prove exciting to large sections of the Cardiff fanbase and are wary some supporters see him as intrinsically linked to Russell Slade, who Trollope worked under previously. As a result, former manager Slade has played no part in the selection process of the new boss.
If Trollope is offered the job, and it is believed he would accept it if he is, sources within the club insist he will not be asked to step down from his coaching role with Chris Coleman’s Wales set-up.
There is also a desire for continuity within the club with concerns about wholesale changes that a new man from outside might demand when it comes to the club’s coaching staff and players.
Whoever gets the job will be given a specific mandate by Tan to finish in the Championship top six next season.

Do you consider a coffee at a service station with a prospective managers agent and interview ?
I have no information, don't have a special source

it just all depends on your view of interviews.

Who do we reckon then?
From rumours i would have a guess at:
Trollope, Clement, Sherwood and McClaren
No doubt to be a curve ball in there.
BTW has Pearson ever been ruled out?

Ask tucker maybe he's number 19 to be interviewed over the few ( TWO ) days

How can Trollope if appointed be allowed to continue his work with the national side? That just wouldn't work!

do you actually think any of those other than trollope would be willing to manage as subordinate to russell slade?
any big name managers you can forget about - the last 3 would have been on big wages and would need to take a massive pay cut to come here.

I think WOL said there were 18 coaches interested in the job, don't think they said they've all been interviewed.

Just giving the heads up Chris, just thought you could merge them, save people reading twice.

If 3 outside candidates EXCELLED at interviews and they give the job to trollope who is a)part of the slade shite from last season and b)not commiting everything to ccfc as he will still be with wales at times, then this will be a very poor decision imo. Go with whoever excelled at interview simple as.

My opinion also!
Not knocking Trollope the Coach per say. I just don't see him being 100% committed
IF (as rumour has it) he (a) needed time to think, i.e. maybe speak to Chris Coleman and the Wales group, and (b) thinks he can balance the two things at once, i.e. Cardiff City and Wales
It would work until the first poor run of City form and this Forum would go into melt-down!

Clearly says in the OP " eighteen have been interviewed over the last few days "
