Why I would be happy with Trollope

Mon May 16, 2016 2:13 pm

Ok, in the last few years we've had Malky, Ole and Slade as manager. Each has had their own style of play and required their own signings, so the turnover has been huge. I'm not sure what the number is of different starting players in those years but I'm sure it's well into the 100's.

This is not sustainable and the club needs some continuity. So now we have a squad in place and a structure as to what type of players we sign and what kind of wage they will be on. We also have a coach in place, who has been here for some time and gets on with the players.

It makes sense to appoint him. The club know what they're getting, plus he'll be able to freshen it up and put his own stamp on things, without upsetting the applecart too much and going right back to square one.

Just my opinion of course :ayatollah: :bluescarf: :bluebird:

My opinion is if Trollope gets the job then nothing will change and still feel like Slade is calling the shots from above him.
I think we need a fresh hungry young manager that doesn't know the squad and can judge the players we have already for themselves

Makes some sense for sure.

However, it is certain that players are going to move on over the summer and Trollope will have little or no say in who will replace them. As far as putting his own stamp on things is concerned, surely that is what he was doing last season or are we to believe that whatever Trollope was trying to do was vetoed by Slade who refused to take it on board?

Is there any evidence of this? Trollope was part of the problem last season as far as I can see.

I feel that we will start the season with a squad that is actually weaker than this season and with someone in charge who was a significant player in last season's inability to reach the top six. Although he has one more promotion to his name than Slade  he was also sacked from his last job in charge when his team were in the relegation places in the lower leagues. He's another manager with absolutely no experience of managing at this level.

Just feels like the same old same old if Trollope gets the job. This is an excellent opportunity to start again with a clean sweep of the backroom staff but if it doesn't happen then frankly I can only see things on the pitch getting worse whilst Tan proceeds with his policy of only appointing cheap yes men as the manager of the club.

It looks nearly inevitable that Trollope will be offered the job. I can't see any reason why he would not accept it. If a new manager was appointed then he would recruit his own coaching staff so Trollope will be out of a job unless he accepts the position.

Trollope will have a harder job than Slade next season. Players will be leaving over the summer (Manga, Marshall, possibly Noone and others) and not sure with Tan at the helm and restricted purse strings that we can attract quality replacements.

I would be happy give Trollope a chance. :thumbright: :ayatollah:

Best way to look at it is, right the whole of next season off and see how Trollope gets on without any pressure on him. Anything above relegation will be reasonably successful for him, as I don't reckon he will have much of a transfer kitty and he himself won't be on a lot, so you can't give him any pressure from fans. If it doesn't work, start to look for a new manager for the 2017-2018 season. Only give him a 12 month rolling contract :bluebird:

With the reported mass exodus of players would anyone other than trollope want the job? :old:

Good post CS. Getting some continuity and stability is definitely what the club needs. Whether Trollope is in charge or not, I would ike to see him involved in the set-up. I think he has plenty more to offer this club.

Slade knew the players and the players got on with slade same as trollope but slade was poor (with trollope as his right hand man)

Bollocks to appointing trollope because the players "like him"

If the club appointed someone like sherwood or clement they would both put their own stamp on the club aswell and heres a crazy thought, the players might like them too!

Trollope would be a step backwards if appointed and I just got a feeling he won't get the job
