Cardiff City fans divided after Paul Trollope becomes clear favourite to land Head Coach role

Wales Online

Sunday May 15th 2016

Cardiff City fans are this today debating the future direction of their club, after Paul Trollope emerged as the bookmakers' clear favourite to become the next Head Coach.

With 18 candidates from across Europe contacting the club, some of whom are being interviewed this weekend, it is far from a done deal for the former Bristol Rovers boss.

Nevertheless, the indications are that he is in pole position.

The current member of the Bluebirds' backroom staff is trading at 1/6 and 1/8 on in the open markets.

But the Cardiff faithful are seemingly divided on the news, unsure whether Trollope's excellent reputation as a coach will translate to success as the main man in charge.

This is what they are saying....

Some think Trollope is a sound choice....

This fan thinks he is the stand out candidate

Michael Jones wrote on our Facebook page...

"I'm backing him 100%. He could well surprise a few people. Warnock hasn't been a success everywhere he's been either.

While 'bluebirdofhappiness', despite Trollope not being his first choice, had this to say on WalesOnline...

"Under RS the team gradually improved from where we were when he took over, and appointing an outside manager would mean having to start from scratch again. And I agree with Jim that we need a proper striker next year.

"It's no coincidence that the two teams that got automatic promotion spent large on strikers to get them there."

Jim Upton feels much the same, saying...

" When you consider that last season’s strike force consisted of Zahore, Saadi and Ameobi, you have to say that Slade and Trollope did a fantastic job getting the club up to 8th in the league.

Give them a proper centre forward next season and the sky’s the limit."

Darryl Jones took to our Facebook page with this message...

" Not so long ago it was Trollope winning all our games and Slade's fault when we lost. I thought fans would be loving this appointment?

"Or was it just they didn't want to give Slade credit? I just really don't get it. Seems yet another manager the fans probably won't support. Sad times. He'll get my full support just like any manager who takes over."

But some are concerned about the news...

There is a sense that Cardiff are not pushing the boat out enough...

Nathan Rees wrote on our Facebook page...

"Absolutely fantastic appointment.. Not!! Great to see the club showing ambition and not going for a cheap easy option..."

While Sean Cartwright had this to say...

" They need someone who's experienced and had a good managerial career."

I will give anyone my support but we've tried Slade and Trollope what difference will Trollope and Slade make..
My view is that come xmas it will be a clear out costing Cardiff City alot of money again..
So why dont Cardiff City get rid of the CRAP that we have had to put up with and get a new team in to sort this mess out,the quicker this can be done the easier it will be..
Get every loan player back at the club and reassess....
Why dont Cardiff City listen to the fans..
They are dividing all the fans again..Tan take some advice the the fans step up and bloody take control of this crap before its to late..

Ridiculous statement, you have no place on a fans board.

I would back Trollope. I think he stands up as a credible and intelligent football guy, with good links. If we're starting a perhaps, 3-year build and push back to prem by 2019 he's a solid shout.

How many teams appoint a hit-and-hope manager for 9-12 month campaigns and narrowly miss out, then are stuck with the debt for years.

Rome wasn't built in a day and all that.

Lets be honest Slade isn't going to have any input in match day tactics which is one of the key areas we fell down last time.

Totally agree. I suppose the fact VT has written off £64m of debt is further evidence of his hatred?

Honestly some fans need to move on.

We all work for a boss of some description? Dave Jones worked under PMG/Ridsdale and Lennie under Sam. Before that Frank Burrows, Billy Ayres, Russell Osmond and Kenny Hibbitt worked for Steve Borley and the Kumars.

They all had targets set and a job description and I don't see why that is a problem especially when considering what happened under MM and his disastrous transfer activity.

the media hasnt helped the club with this tho they painted tan as a bond villan and now managers have a picture in their head of the type of boss he will be and personally i dont think any top coach will work under such restrictions where the like of trollope will jump at it to enhance his reputation

The club need to plan for the future. Maybe 5 years to try and get to the PL, or at least secure us as a decent championship club. I think the majority of City fans are happy for us to be a championship club, that's basically what the club has been for decades :bluebird:

Trouble with that is how do you explain what is going on down west? If we are a standard Championship side then by definition they should be league 1 at best.

If they can do it so can we.

I know what you are saying, but they are now an established PL side, that will only get stronger and bigger by definition. The clubs who go up now will be the yo yo clubs. It still amazes me how many Jacks are creeping up around south east Wales, mainly kids admittedly but even some adults. My sons school in Cardiff has three jacks in his class. Newbie fans and kids love the PL and will hook onto a local PL side.
In the end of the day, they ply their trade in the PL, we ply ours in the Championship, it's not the end of the world. And with so many players playing in the PL it can only be good and help the Welsh national team :bluebird:

Agree, Tony!

Tan certainly didn't help himself for a long time (I believe that has now largely changed as he tries to get the club on a self-sufficient base) but the media set out to paint him in a wholly bad way without separating the individual issues on their own merits

Sadly that is what they do, as a negative story has much more impact (and sales potential) than a positive one!

For me, the BBC and Match of the Day were the most culpable when they had their big Malky love-in during the dark period where he hoodwinked (what else would people call it?) all around him when he already knew the game was really up through his own (and more so those of his mate's) actions not Tan's, who had up to that point given him everything he wanted

With their so-called pundits having taken every opportunity to paint Tan as the Evil Emperor at the time, has anyone seen Malky lauded on Match of the Day since the facts came out? Uhm, no! ;)

Rob Phillips apart, I think local media need to take a long hard look at themselves, too! A very negative attitude towards the Welsh capital's club (and some weird ramblings and inventive journalism by Tucker) means that they appear to be actively looking for the negative impact stories and (as we know) there are far too many out there that want to believe any negatives that help paint the club and its owner in a wholly poor light!

You're probably right, but I say it how I see it  :laughing6:

It's not that I don't appreciate what Malky did for us or that he shouldn't be allowed to move on in football. I certainly do and I have posted that :ayatollah:

But it is my considered opinion that he hung on too long once HE knew the game was up and he milked/hoodwinked some pretty loyal fans KNOWING what was around the corner and he got the media to help raise his own profile (something Malky was very good at) whilst allowing Tan to be painted as the evil villain for taking a stand against effective racism; something (anti-racism) any right-minded person should support! :ayatollah:

We started improving as soon as Trollope started, if he had been there from the beginning, top six would have been the minimum result this season imo :ayatollah:

Five years is a long time in football. Back then we made the top 6 and lost in the play-offs to Reading. I'd take City's 2010/2011 team, over the team we have now any day.

We've had our stabilising period. To come 8th this season (7th most of the season), we must be having the ambition to return to the BPL in the 16/17 season if we came that close.

8th or lower next season has to be seen as no progress, because we'd have not improved our league position. Trollope isn't the man to make us a PL team. He failed at Bristol Rovers so it's a very big ask to succeed at CCFC. :D

The club needs to showing bigger ambition than this, here and now. :ayatollah:
