' FOUR OTHER PLAYERS/COULD THEY BE SIGNED BY CCFC? '

Sun May 15, 2016 8:18 pm

Could any of the other Four Cardiff City loanees join Lex Immers in making a permanent switch?

Do you want any of them?

BY PHIL SMITH

The club moved quickly after the transfer embargo was lifted to land the popular Dutchman, so what happens next for the other four players Cardiff have had on loan this campaign?

Tony Watt and Tom Lawrence face uncertain futures at their parent clubsTony Watt and Tom Lawrence face uncertain futures at their parent clubs

But what about the other loanees at the Cardiff City Stadium this season?

While none of them have had anything like the impact of the Dutchman, all have shown flickers of talent.

So what is likely to happen next?

Kenneth Zohore :ayatollah:

Does he have a future at parent club? : When Kenneth Zohore signed for K.V Kortrijk, the impression was very much that it was to facilitate a long-term switch to Cardiff City. You would suspect that if there is a desire to keep him at Cardiff, that move can be made to happen.

Pros? : Having finally forced his way into first team reckoning, the Danish striker looked raw but showed he had an eye for goal. He almost stole an utterly priceless winner at Burnley, before starting the comeback at home to Bolton that kept his team’s play-off hopes alive. Surprisingly quick across the ground, there is undoubtedly talent in this imposing attacker.

Cons? : Zohore laboured badly at Hillsborough, and his decision making has not always been exemplary. Most worryingly, his hold-up play is rough and he is not a dominant presence in the air. The hope that he could be the kind of target man needed to make Russell Slade’s team click was never really realised.

Verdict : Whether Cardiff should go for Zohore probably depends on the financial terms of the deal. The suspicion is that Cardiff will not have a great deal of room for maneouvre this summer, The priority has to be a striker likely to score 15-20 goals a season. Zohore is unlikely to offer that immediately, and if signing him ties up much of the summer budget, perhaps the money would be better spent elsewhere. Would be an interesting long-term investment, mind.

Tom Lawrence :ayatollah:

Does he have a future at parent club? : It’s still unclear. Lawrence remains a promising young player but the excellent form of Demarai Gray since joining the Premier League champions means the Welsh youngster has slipped further down the pecking order. Leicester will presumably strengthen this summer ahead of a maiden Champions League campaign next season.

Pros? : An exciting, young, Welsh talent. There have simply not been enough of those in a Cardiff shirt of late. There have been promising moments, too. He nearly scored his first goal in the Severnside derby, while he was one of many top performers in that 4-1 demolition of Brighton. There is certainly more to come.

Cons? : There has never really been anything more than a flicker of his talent in the last few months. He initially struggled playing through the middle, as Cardiff registered some under whelming results against the likes of Charlton. And having returned to the wing against Birmingham on the final day, a bright start quickly faded,

Verdict : Like Zohore, much depends on what kind of value Leicester City place on him. The chance to work with Wales coach Paul Trollope going forward is an appealing one, but he has simply not done enough since January to be the kind of marquee signing that takes up a good chunk of Cardiff’s budget.

Sammy Ameobi :ayatollah:

Does he have a future at his parent club? : Perhaps. Newcastle face a dramatic overhaul of their squad after relegation, and fellow wingers Gabriel Obertan and Sylvain Marveaux have already been released.

Pros? : With only one year left on his deal, if Newcastle do decide to offload, he would presumably be available for a cut-price fee. Remains a talented player capable of gliding past defenders. There aren’t too many of those in the Championship,

Cons? : Wages would be significant and if truth be told, he has been a major disappointment so far this season. Has not made anywhere a big enough impact on games and has not lived up to the excitement when he signed.

Verdict : Cardiff do desperately need to add flair to their squad, but they must look elsewhere.

The Team our Head of Sport would like to see start next season

Tony Watt :ayatollah:

Does he have a future at parent club? : Highly unlikely. Charlton will be offloading players as they prepare for League One and Tony Watt is one of their most profitable assets.

Pros? : Was hugely popular with Bluebirds’ fans during his short time in Wales. After Lex Immers signed earlier this week, many were quick to point out what an exciting attacking duo the Dutchman and the Scot could form. Given how close a permanent deal was in January, the finances required to sign him presumably aren’t too stretching.

Cons? : Despite being an exciting talent, Watt has still not turned into a consistent and reliable goal scorer. He has yet to prove that he can succeed once the honeymoon period at a new club is over. Has scored only twice for Blackburn.

Verdict : A good player who fans would be delighted to see sign. Must not be the only addition up front, if he does come.

Do people honestly think Zohore isn't already our player?

The only reason he went to Belgium first was due the Embargo.

He ain't going anywhere soon.

I think Zohore is here to stay, whether on an extended loan deal or a financially mutual sale.

Tony Watt I would bring back, it would be nice to see him alongside someone like Zohore who might actually run to get on the end of Watt's balls, whereas KJ never really looked interested.

Tom Lawrence - good bloke and good attitude, can't fault that, and he's much nearer the 'type' of player we should be after in terms of building a unified and cohesive team, but he just hasn't hit form and showed no signs of lighting the pitch up. I would let him go back. He's not young enough to be considered young and developing either.

Ameobi I would let go as well. All style no substance.

Neither would I.
If Zohore comes on a free or some sort of deal he could be a prospect though.
City will not bring Watt back for sure.

I would take a punt on Zohore and Lawrence (season long loan?). Zohore was clearly lacking match fitness but I liked the way he found opportunities to score. They way he took his goal vs. Bolton was impressive and a good pre-season and you never know.

Lawrence is a right winger and that's where we should play him. Noone should be moved over to the left and get the ball into the box for Zohore and Lex.

Not for me, nothing to suggest they are good enough. I bet Leicester wont be selling Lawrence until after the Euros though just incase.

Watt maybe if its proven he hasn't got dodgy knees
