England and Wales clash put on high alert for terrorism and hooliganism.

Sunday 15th May, 2016

By Jamie Kemble

England and Wales clash put on high alert terrorism and hooliganism.

The England – Wales clash is one of only five games which have been put on this level of alert so far.

Wales’ mouth-watering Euro 2016 fixture against neighbours England has been put on the highest form of security alert amid fears of terrorist attacks and hooliganism.

Welsh fans travelling to Lens on June 16th will notice high levels of security as officials seek to cancel out the threat of a terrorist attack as well as hooliganism, which has been an issue when the two nations have met in the past.

France remains in a state of emergency following devastating terrorist attacks in Paris back in November and with the nation playing host to the European Championships, experts warn France could become a target again this June and July.

According to the Daily Mail, England’s two opening games, against Russia and Wales, have both been placed under the highest level of security due to fears England fans will be a significant target for terrorist group ISIS.

The England – Wales clash is one of only five games which have been put on this level of alert so far.

Tens of thousands of Wales and England fans are expected to travel to Lens despite the Stade Bollaert-Delelis only holding just over 38,000. Thousands of fans who travel without tickets will be housed in the Lens fan-zone and surrounding areas where extra security will be on-hand to attempt to prevent terrorism and hooliganism.

Supporters without tickets have been urged not to travel to the small French town due to the influx of supporters set to take over the city on June 16th. Supporters with tickets can expect extended security checks and even metal detectors before entering the stadium.

Hooliganism has also been an issue between the two nations in the past and that’s been recognized by police in the host nation as the two teams meet for the first time since 2011.

The Daily Mail report that 1,200 security guards will oversea England’s opening clash against Russia in Marseilles and a similar figure is expected as Chris Coleman’s men go up against the Three Lions just five days later.

The advice from experts to British supporters is to enjoy the experience but to remain vigilant throughout amid the fear British fans will be targeted.

Wouldn't worry about isis

There will be massive trouble between Wales and England , we can't stand each other everyone nos what football fans are like after drink and whatever the result someone will be disappointed so it will kick off , draw and England would be tamping

Let's not forget we will be in the same pubs and hotels , little scuffles could lead to a riot

So you're saying we should worry more about football hooligans than a very real threat of a terrorist attack of some sort?

i wouldn't really worry about a few England Pansy's either

All I'm saying is there is going to be trouble there's no 2 ways unfortunately because of the hatred

I also think the security measures there going through for the euros right now will prevent any terror attacks

I'd rather about a terrorist firing an ak47 at me rather then some clown throwing a chair at me.

For me, it's all about the football. At some point you have to trust the organisers and the security to get sorted. Just enjoy the games!

I'd love to give England a shock!! Lol.
