NO DEAL FOR JOSE

But the big news this morning is that we understand Jose Mourinho has no agreement in place to join Manchester United as manager this summer.

Earlier this week, reports in Italy suggested that the former Chelsea manager was "hours away" from agreeing to replace Louis van Gaal as manager at Old Trafford.

However, it is understood that no formal approach has been made and no agreement has been reached with the Portuguese.

HOWARD: WE LET MARTINEZ DOWN

Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard believes the players must take full responsibility for the sacking of Roberto Martinez.

Martinez was sacked in the week after three years in charge and Howard, who will play his last game for the club on Sunday, told Sky Sports: "It is harsh.

"I think the world of Roberto as a man and as a manager. He has been great to me. Actually, that is an understatement - he has been brilliant to me.

"Ever since the day he walked in, we have had a fantastic relationship so I am sad to see him go and I know the players are.

"The players need to take full responsibility. That is on us. Rightly or wrongly, they cannot sack 22 players. It is always the manager who pays the price for our failings so it is a difficult part of the business."

After securing Premier League survival, Sam Allardyce is keen for Sunderland to make early moves in the transfer market.

The Black Cats have been linked with Swansea’s Andre Ayew as well as Lorient right-back Lamine Gassama and Bordeaux midfielder Clement Chantome.

“We’d like to get in players as quickly as we can, but the difficulty of doing things early doors is the Euros,” Allardyce is quoted as saying by the Shields Gazette. “That’s one of the elements which we have to get around.

“For me the initial focus is on the players who are already here, what we’ve got to do with those players who are out of contract or here on loan.

“We have to see what we can sort out with those players before we move into the market like everyone else. That will be the hard part; spending the money as wisely as we possibly can.

“Even though there’s more money coming for everybody, it will only inflate the prices during the early part of the summer.”

Date: 14th May 2016

Bolton’s retained list for the 2016/17 season has been released with a number of senior players leaving the club in the summer, the club have confirmed.

Following the relegation and financial issues that have plagued the club, a clear out was expected as the club looks to rebuild itself in League One.

Of the senior professionals leaving the notable names are David Wheater, Neil Danns, Emile Heskey, Stephen Dobbie, Liam Feeney, Rob Hall and Paul Rachubka who all will officially leave the club on June 30th.

The departure of David Wheater and Neil Danns will leave large holes in Bolton’s defence and midfield with the former a stalwart of Bolton and Danns being ever present in Bolton’s midfield.

As well as the senior players recent academy graduates Oscar Threlkeld and Niall Maher will also leave as Bolton prepares for the difficult task of bouncing back into the Championship from League 1.
With preparation for League One clearly already under way, the effectiveness of recruitment will be crucial to how Bolton fare next season.

GHALO HAPPY AT WATFORD

Watford might have lost their manager but it doesn't sound like they will be losing their top scorer too.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Odion Igahlo said: "A lot of clubs were interested in January and I turned down a lot of money from China and even in the Premier League.

"I decided to stay and I am still happy I stayed. I know offers will come. My agent is going to sit down with Gino (Pozzo, owner of Watford) and talk. I have a four-year contract and I am happy if they want me to stay.

"We will see how it goes. I love the fans here, they supported me even when things were not going well, that's all you can want. If Gino wants to keep me I am happy to stay."

ALL ABOUT THE PRICE TAG?

How’s this for an honest assessment? Alessio Romagnoli, who signed for AC Milan from Roma last summer for €25 million, says he has not justified his price tag yet, and might never do so.

“I don’t think that fans have yet managed to see a return on the money that Milan paid for me,” he told Sportweek. “It won’t take me a season or two to do that – in fact it will take a lifetime [to justify the price tag].

“Playing for Milan brings more pressure than playing for any other club along with Juventus. However, I really want to show that I can do and will continue to give my best.”
