" EX-ENGLAND MANAGER ONE OF 18 TO WANT CITY JOB "

We can reveal McClaren is among 18 managers and coaches from across Europe who've enquired about the role

Former England boss Steve McClaren is among a host of managers from across Europe who have enquired about the Cardiff City job , we can reveal.

McClaren, who was most recently in charge at Newcastle, is one of 18 managers and coaches who have expressed an interest in taking over from Russell Slade in the Welsh capital in the past week.

WalesOnline has learned the Bluebirds’ top brass are now carrying out interviews over the weekend, with a decision and announcement due to be made before the end of next week.

McClaren looks unlikely to be offered the role, but the club is said to be encouraged there are so many top names apparently interested in taking charge. Another enquiry was received from a former top Premier League defender who has since moved into coaching.

But despite the wealth of external enquiries, the Bluebirds have still not ruled out appointing from within, with current head coach, Paul Trollope, regarded as the most serious candidate currently at Cardiff.

It emerged on Thursday that fellow Cardiff coach James Rowberry is also a potential candidate who has been discussed among certain influential figures at the club.

Trollope, who was brought into the club in February 2015 to support Slade, is said to be extremely popular amongst the Cardiff players who enjoy his coaching methods.

The Wales assistant is expected to be interviewed for the top job after external candidates have been seen.

The Bluebirds made their first signing of the summer this week when Lex Immers, who had been on loan in the Welsh capital from Dutch club Feyenoord, made the move permanent by signing a two-year contract.

Cardiff are keen to get their new Head Coach in place as soon as possible, with the club’s hierarchy believing a clutch of key signings by the new man over the close-season should make the team highly-competitive in next season’s Championship.

Whoever takes the new job will be issued with a minimum target of making the top six by owner Vincent Tan.

There are so many top names that are apparently interested because managers are on a constant merry go round.
A manager fails, gets replaced and fails again. That's just the way it is.

In my opinion somebody like Rowberry definitely shouldn't be manager or head coach or whatever you want to call him, especially if the play offs are the clubs aim next season. Maybe he's one for the future but none of us fans really know him.

I wonder if McLaren would bring his Dutch accent with him?

"I am pleashed to be manager of Cardiff Shitty".

At least Immers might be able to understand him.
