Ben Turner released
Bye Ben Thanx for the memory.

Re: Ben Turner released

Club must have either serious concerns about his long term fitness or a large belief they can hang onto Manga.

Or he's on silly money I guess.

Re: Ben Turner released

Thu May 12, 2016 10:49 pm

Shame that but I don't think he'll be without a club for long

Best of luck Ben.

Re: Ben Turner released

I can see why the club have done this with his injury problems

Re: Ben Turner released

Fri May 13, 2016 4:24 am

Sad to see him go, especially with Manga speculation....great servant for the club, cheers Ben!

Re: Ben Turner released

Fri May 13, 2016 5:11 am

I think the club have got to save money and maybe the feeling is he's a gamble on his fitness.

Excellent defender who never let us down, good character who never hid when things went wrong.
One of my favourite players.

Good luck Ben, that moment at Wembley will never be forgotten

Good luck to him, shouldn't find to much trouble getting a club. From the clubs point of view and easy way to cut down on CB's we still have Manga, Morrison, connolly, oshilaja and Peltier to cover. Even if Manga goes we still have options. In all of DJs seasons we went with 3 main CBs and never had any trouble.

Yes, there is not going to be a backlash from fans but it's nice to see he was appreciated. I hope he gets back to the standards he set a year or two ago. I want him to have a good career, been so unlucky lately :ayatollah: :bluebird:

I'm not sure I agree.

Manga seems to be looking to move away and Oshilaja is unproven at Championship level.

I'm not sure Peltier should be a first choice full back let alone centre half!

Short sighted of the club to let Big Ben go in my opinion.

Great servant to the club and that goal at Wembley has to be one of my favourite moments ever following CCFC.

He's had at least 3 ankle operations, 2 in the last year. And the thing is with ankles they are one of the most likely injuries to reoccur the ligaments will never go back to their old parameters. The club docs have obviously made the decision based on this, he may nit have much more to give before he goes man down for another 6 months!

I am gutted though, he's a rock at the back.

Gutted he's leaving but his injury record speaks for itself. When fit he's an excellent defender and leader.

Thanks for the memories and a fantastic contribution to the club Ben. Good luck on your next move :ayatollah:

Re: Ben Turner released

Fri May 13, 2016 8:50 am

Gutted to see him go as I think we should have given him till xmas to prove his fitness and the released him for January if he wasn't up for the task. when fit prob the best defender at the club and outside the prem imo. If Manga goes which I think he will then this may turn out to be a silly move but GOOD LUCK BEN GREAT SERVANT :bluebird:

His goal at Wembley, one of my best momemts following the club.
Great servant and one of our best defenders.
I would keep him and get rid of Manga imo.

More reliable. Manga is also injury prone and spends a lot of time away in Africa with Gabon (?)

Agree with both of the above. The club needs to look after every penny of the playing budget and Ben's injury record would count heavily against him. As stated he should easily get another club and I to will never forget that goal at Wembley against Liverpool. 0 :ayatollah: :bluescarf:

A bit surprised really considering we haven't got a manager yet, maybe his wages were high but perhaps a new boss would of kept him and moved someone else on. Someone on the board did say ken choos comments on turner were out of line etc, not sure what he said but maybe he played a part.... Club should have new gaffer before singing releasing players

I am gutted too. I love players like Ben who give their all for Cardiff City.

It is possibly the right decision but what a shame that we have to let him go when we are stuck with the likes of Le Fondre and Mecheda.

How many games did Turner even play last season. At no point were we short of CB's

Agree I wouldn't have Peltier as first choice CB but if we have a few injuries he could fill for a game while we get a loan in.

Oshijala might be unproven but he has done well everywhere he has been. If we don't give him a chance then what's the point in having him, or any youth players.

The new manager may even want to bring in his own CB.

Sad to see him go as he never let city down.He won't be short of offers that's for sure. Thanks for all the effort you put in and especially that Wembley goal. :bluebird:

Has this been confirmed?

So far appears to be a strong rumour but likely to happen because Turner is a high earner at the CCS

Coventry City his likely destination if he does go ;)

Re: Ben Turner released

Fri May 13, 2016 2:49 pm

I would have given him another year at a lower salary to give him a chance to prove his fitness. I thought he played very well against Birmingham considering the amount of time he was out injured. I'll be sorry to see him go if this is true because he always played with passion and I admired his decision not to play for Wales when he had the chance.

Surprised by that, very good player when fit, our loss as they say, good luck Ben, i guess back to Coventry :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Excellent defender for us, never shirked a Challenge and always gave 100%.
Fair to say he wasn't the best footballing centre half we've ever had, can smile about those many long diagonal passes he used to try now? One or two made their target.
Sorry to see him go, huge fan of his, good luck Big Ben!

Exactly what I would have done or at least offered him the chance to stay at a reduced wage. Didn't seem off the pace against Birmingham and looked solid and forgot what a good tackler he is. Surely worth a converstaion with CEO about staying before releasing especially if Manga going to be sold.

my motm against brum aggree with yuo m8

Why play him vs brum if we knew we was going to release him which we kind of guessed would happen, kinds of makes you think what's the fecking point in a dvp team and others sat in the stands who can play center back who will be here next season also it was a nothing game

The club are barking mad :laughing5:

Re: Ben Turner released

Turner has not been released, city are waiting for the new manager to be appointed, so that he can have an input with the committee, to decide if Turner will be offered a new contract

Re: Ben Turner released

Tue May 17, 2016 9:51 pm

Birmingham City are interested in securing the services of out-of-contract Cardiff City defender Ben Turner, according to reports.

Ben Turner’s five-year spell at Cardiff City is set to end this summer with the expiry of his contract fast approaching and no new deal on the table. Fellow Championship club, Birmingham City, are one club who are looking to pick up the strong defender from the Bluebirds’ on a ‘Bosman’.

The central defender has been ridden with injuries during the latter stages of his time in South Wales having undergone surgery three times on his ankles. Turner has been hit with two long-term injuries over the course of the last two campaigns, keeping him on the sidelines.

So sad to hear the news. love Big Ben.

I remember the week of the league cup final I was telling everyone that would listen he would score. To this day I have no idea why I thought he would score. I put 10 euro on him fist goal scorer and 10 euro last goal scorer. unfortunately his goal was in extra time so didn't win me money but gave me on of greatest moments ever as a Cardiff City fan.

Best of luck Big Ben. Hope injuries are behind him and he has great remainder to his career.
