May add that this is after Trollope was interviewed first.

We have an opportunity to appoint someone who can come in with fresh ideas and we get someone who is part of Slades gang

The club will never never learn

Appointing Rowberry does not excite me at all. Instead it's says Newcastle, Villa +1 are going up and were not going to bother.

Disappointed if that is the case

If it is about saving money I'd do it for £50k p.a and I dare say there are many passionate supporters who would do likewise

Surely this is an opportunity to get the right person in.

Exactly, it could turn out to be a great appointment after all, the club know what he's all about already. People on here are desperately wanting a big name. I'll support whoever gets the job.

Would have thought that the sacking of Russell Slade was an opportunity to bring someone in and look at reaching the play off's at least next season. Don't think that would be possible if either Rowberry or Trollope get the manager's job.

FORMER Newport County AFC coach James Rowberry is reportedly "under consideration" to become Russell Slade's successor at Cardiff City

The Bluebirds have held talks with 31-year-old who is currently first team coach at the Cardiff City Stadium.

Rowberry joined the club's academy in 2013, having previously spent four years working alongside the first team and development side at County.

He has also worked for the Football Association of Wales.

Born in Newport, the former Hartridge High School pupil joined County’s youth ranks after being released by Bristol City at 16.

He combined his playing career with studies at Swansea University before hanging up his boots at just 21 to concentrate on coaching.

Rowberry completed his Uefa Pro Licence badge aged just 29 under the tutelage of FAW Trust chief and Wales assistant boss Osian Roberts.

Slade was removed as manager at the end of the season with the club instead looking to appoint a head coach.

Rowberry is currently 18/1 to land the job with bookies Sky Bet. Cardiff's current head coach Paul Trollope is the 8/11 favourite.

Totally agree with you wez. A lot more qualified than Bellamy. Been studying the game from a managerial/coaching perspective for 10 years.

We need a young manager with long term vision and fresh ideas.

I'm happy to go with a long term fix and build a team through our youth setup. Even if it means that we don't get promoted for 3-4 years.

I'd rather that than go up next season with loan signings and not be ready for premier league. End up back in the championship and looking for another new manager

Cardiff City fans will be surprised to learn that unknown coach James Rowberry, a former Academy boss with the Bluebirds, is in the running to become Russell Slade’s successor.

Rowberry is one of a number of candidates Vincent Tan and the Cardiff hierarchy are running the rule over as they work out the best way forward for the club.

Most of the others are well known, of course, but just who is James Rowberry? Here we run the rule over the coaching young gun being linked with the Cardiff post.

Just who is he and where is he from?
Rowberry, 31, is a highly-respected young coach who has been making a real name for himself in Welsh football circles over the past few years.

He comes from Newport, the former Hartridge High School pupil having joined County’s youth ranks after being released by Bristol City at 16.

He combined his burgeoning playing career with studies at Swansea University before hanging up his boots at just 21 to concentrate on coaching.

How did he get into coaching?
Rowberry first served as assistant director at Newport County’s academy before impressing with the FAW Trust as a football development officer.

He joined Cardiff’s set-up in 2013, with a focus on developing school-age youngsters in the Bluebirds Academy.

He became one of the youngest individuals anywhere in the world game to complete his Uefa Pro Licence badge, under the tutelage of FAW Trust chief and Wales assistant boss Osian Roberts.

Rowberry was just 29 when he gained the highest qualification for coaching in Europe. That meant he was as qualified as managerial hevayweights such as Jose Mourinho, Arsene Wenger, Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola.

Just because he's not high profile doesn't mean he won't be decent.

I'd rather have a more experienced name but I'd be willing to give him the benefit of the doubt if he is appointed.

FFS!

Never played football professionally.
Never managed or coached a team at league level.
Part of the set-up that according to the Chief Executive "failed" last season.

This guy makes Slade look like Mourinho.

Going to leave my phone on as surely my turn to be interviewed for the job must be coming up any minute.

If they are serious about this the club are an even bigger joke than we all think.

He is young, ambitious, knows the youngsters very well, highly qualified and turning many heads in the coaching game.

What more do you need?

700+ games under his belt?

Come on guys, isnt this what we want?

Someone somewhere gave ferguson, mourinho, guardiola their first chance.

He's 3 seasons of experience behind Ardley

A hell of a lot more qualified than Bellamy

And a damn sight younger than Warnock.

He isn't part of the old setup, he is the academy coach, the one that deals with o sullivan and healy and all the other players we are screaming to give a chance to.

This guy to me is a more exciting prospect than any one else mentioned so far.

Surely if they have interviewed him for the position then Trollope has either turned down the job or was only interviewed for the position but hasn't been offered it yet. Seems highly qualified as a coach and well respected so if he gets it I hope he does well, certainly deserves to be supported, he could just turn out to be a gem.

So Tan wants to promote from within, make the next Eddie Howe?

This reminds me of that situation he looked at Swansea and said he wants his manager to sign 11 players like Michu.

I pray this is a smokescreen for the real target.

Someone else has said clements warnock trollope have also been interviewed so looks like 1 of 4 for the job

Re: CARDIFF CITY HOLD INTERVIEW FOR THE MANAGERS JOB WITH

Thu May 12, 2016 2:28 pm

So we are abusing a young welsh highly qualified coach because he is not a big name ?

Now I am not sure he’ll make it, but I will be supporting him next season if he gets the job.

If he gets it I hope after all that study, smacking it aimlessly long down the middle of the park to a big man with two hardmen in midfield is not his M.O.

I could be wrong on this but if I remember right Slade did not bring Trollope to the club anyway. Was very highly thought of and many agree the football got better after he joined but although he advised Slade he never got to pick the team or the formation for that matter. If he's going to take the job its gotta be right for him.Perhaps he wants a couple more seasons as a number 2.He probably knows if he don't get it right from game 1 the bitches will be straight on his back as they know more about football than him anyway. The thing is if Warnock takes over and doesn't get us promoted there will still be a que for his services if we got rid of him where as Trollope would be shafted.

Yes, agree and I believe most City supporters will give any new man a fair chance

However, some appointments will install immediate confidence over others and I hope city do this for footballing reasons rather than 'control' purposes. Next season is a very important one to the club and its supporters and any perceived lack of ambition to take major steps forward may result in a massive downturn in attendances (even in comparison to now) the season after :(

Bit of a curve ball I know, but totally agree with you. For me giving youth a shot and a modern approach is all I want to see at our club. Everyone has to start somewhere
