The form of the Dutchman since arriving in Wales is said to have caught the attention of clubs around Cardiff in the Championship

Cardiff City face competition to sign Lex Immers from clubs at the top of Championship, according to reports in the Netherlands.

The Bluebirds' are keen to convert the attacking midfielder's loan deal into a permanent arrangement, with Russell Slade revealing in April that talks had begun with Feyenoord.

Addressing the issue after the 1-1 draw with Birmingham, the now Head of Football confirmed that discussions were ongoing, and seemed confident that a deal will be done.

But according to De Telegraaf , the Dutchman's superb form has caught the attention of many Championship clubs.

They are not named in the report, but are said to be monitoring the situation.

Immers himself has stated many times that he would like to stay on in the Welsh capital.

In a Q&A with WalesOnline in March, he said: "I feel settled, I feel confident. The people are nice here, everybody wants to help me. I have a lot of confidence in the club and the gaffer. I feel happy.

"I want to stay but at the moment it’s impossible because of the transfer embargo, so I have to wait and see.

"I like the city, the players, the staff, the manager, everybody. I get confidence here and my family is happy here, which is important."

With five goals in fifteen appearances, Immers has proved a major hit with Cardiff fans, drawing praise for his work-rate in defence and in attack.

The hope had been that the lifting of the embargo would allow the club to move swiftly to land him.

There may yet be a nervous wait on the cards.

If we have the money to sign him, and WANT him, then I can't see why he'd choose another championship team over us unless it's one of the top dogs who plan to be pushing for automatic promotion.

The Feyenoord boys came over to watch the Birmingham game and they told me in the Rotterdam press the club are looking for a fee in the region of 2.5 million pounds, if true I am not sure if we would spend what little money the new Manager may have on one player, guess time will tell.

Maybe he could be the new manager. Fits the alleged criteria of young, statistics based (most Dutch systems are) and foreign?

Or maybe Feyenoord want 2.5 mil, we are not looking to pay that much, and this could be a made up story to put the pressure on us to pay the asking price.

if that's true I wouldn't want him he's getting on abit now and we won't have that much to spend unless we get rid of the high earners

Maybe not, but he's got alot to his game and as an attacking midfielder I could see him netting 10/15 no problem. We still need an out and out striker who's guna get us 20+ playing infront of him.

Its not so much the fee as the wages that are important in club finances now. The Dutch League obviously don't pay their players very much as all of their best players go abroad, so he may well be worth it. And make him club captain next year too!

immers will not be joining us boys I fear.. they want decent money for him and a 20 goal striker is much higher on our list of needs I would think :ayatollah:

Cardiff City are set to to rival a host of Championship clubs in the race to sign forward Lex Immers, according to reports from the Netherlands

Cardiff signed Immers on deadline-day on loan from Eredivisie club Feyenoord.

He has made a big impact at Cardiff, scoring five goals in 12 appearances to help keep Russell Slade’s team in contention for a play-off spot.

Immers scored 31 goals in 100 League appearances for Feyenoord, having joined them from Den Haag in 2012.

Cardiff are under a Football League transfer embargo, but were able to sign players on loan during the January window.

The club hope the embargo will be lifted in the summer in time for them to sign Immers when his loan deal will expires.

Cardiff however will face tough competition, especially with clubs at the top of the Championship, according to reports in Holland.

A towering, bundling figure who may not be blessed with an eye-catching array of skills, it’s his work-rate and awkwardness which causes defender’s problems.

And with Slade adopting a rather unorthodox forward line featuring no natural strikers at points this season, Immers has flourished and been superb.

Well our club like signing players above the managers head. And anyway how much say will the 'head coach' have in who's coming in?

I hope the rumours about them wanting 2.5m arnt true. I think the club will pay around 1m for him but not much more
