The Bluebirds have reportedly identified Page as the man who could fill the vacancy left by Slade moving upstairs at the club.
Cardiff City want former Bluebird and Wales international Rob Page to succeed Russell Slade, according to reports.
Page, 41, has been in charge of Port Vale since September 2014 after initially assisting Micky Adams. The Valiants are 12th in League One ahead of this afternoon's final game against Walsall but have been in play-off contention for much of the campaign and are just six points off the top six.
The Bluebirds have identified Page as the man who could fill the vacancy left by Slade moving upstairs at the club, according to The Sun .
He knows the club having played at Ninian Park during a brief spell in the Championship under Lennie Lawrence where he made nine appearances before moving to Coventry City in February 2005.
It was revealed Slade would be taking up a new role as Head of Football on Friday and he took charge of his final Cardiff game against Birmingham on Saturday.
Speaking afterwards, Bluebirds CEO Ken Choo said that the play-offs had been the minimum aim this season and that a shortlist of managerial candidates had already been drawn up.
"We are starting selection now. We are reviewing candidates. Maybe it will take a couple of weeks; we do have a shortlist," Choo said.
"There’s a shortlist but we are open to offers from others still, the nationality is not important as long as we get the right man."
"This squad cost £28 million to assemble. Vincent's position is clear, any lower than the play-offs is a failure."

That shower of shite are worth about £15 million tops. And thats valuing Marshall at £5m and Manga at £4m.
And Page??? What's he done?? Slade had way more experience at managing and he was inept.
We need some excitement and glamour.....some inspiration ffs!!!!
What are our players going to think with Slade still there and Page barking orders at them?
What about Zola, Sherwood, even Ian Holloway??
