Optimism around CCFC

Sun May 08, 2016 9:50 am

Every post I have made and comment posted has been in support of Slade. He wasn't brought in to get us promoted and let's face it , we wouldn't have been ready for the premier league.

1)He was brought in to stabilise the club and remove dead wood and he has done that very well whilst flirting around the play offs all season without a proper goal scorer .

He has been moved upstairs in what I believe is a great thing, he will be the middle man between Tan and the new young head coach as Tan clearly trusts him .

2)We've got a good nucleus of players going into next season and we are linked with several great coaches.

3)The new kit looks great

4)Debt has been reduced

5) the main concern I have however is the lack of emphasis on our youth policy which has been awful for years. This needs to be addressed.

Opinions ?

1. He's brought in so much dead wood we need Canadian lumber jacks to clear us up!
2. We've got about 10 players who are any good - the rest can feck off!
3. Whoopee a new kit!
4. debt was going to be reduced no matter what.
5. the main concern I have is slade is still employed, and worse still;, Scott Young!!

Oh and Paul Clement is already our coach!

He didn't take us down and has seen off, although he had little say, some big earners

I have no problem with him being asked to trim the squad but I saw this as an ideal opportunity to bring through some youngsters .... He didn't and instead brought in average players and never addressed the issue of lack of pace which has existed for some time.

So for me not looking at youth when being asked to trim the squad was a huge negative.

Finishing 8th but bringing through some youth players and a better style of football would have been not only acceptable but welcome.

What we got was a very mundane and slow footballing style and an almost non existent contribution from the youth.

On that basis I am more than happy to see him depart but with his footballing mentality making him head of football is worrying.

Saying that it's likely to only a be a matter of time before he gets a management job offer.

1 - to get into the playoffs we needed a goalscorer. Slade didnt get 1. Surely could have got someone better than our 20 goal a season Sammy Ameobi ! and hes brought in more dead wood all be it at cheaper wages but these could be harder to move on like Malone

2 - our players aint up to it otherwise we would be top 6. only coach linked so far is Rob Page. very poor if anything in that. rest are just guesses on here and in media

3 - agree i like the kit

4- debt is reduced. i put this down to Tan not Slade

5 - lack of trust in youth has been wowfull

I would say we are better as a club now than when Slade first came here

We are back in blue, will be debt free in few years and hopefully we have a terrace hero in Lex Immers to rally our support around.

The saddest thing is Slade was within a whisker of being legend. There maybe many reasons why the play-off dream vanished and I accept that, but for me personally it went up in smoke at half time at Craven Cottage. There must have been one catastrophic half-time team talk which completely switched the defence off in particular.

My memory of him will be "if only he had been a bit more bolder"

IMO, he was too bold at Craven Cottage in the second half, as we were getting overrun in midfield. He put another striker on and took off our best midfielder on the day in Gunnarsson, when I felt he should have stabilised the midfield area firstly, in order to rebuild a platform to get a foothold in the game. Instead, we ended up playing an end to end game, with players like Whitts in the middle of the park, who is definitely not, a box to box player!

It's quite clear that there were many reasons why we wasted our chances of a play off place, or automatic promotion and some of them is because we persisted in playing a too pedestrian Digkachoi, alongside Whitts in central midfield for too long earlier in the season and we did not have one decent striker in our team throughout virtually the whole season. We carried KJ & Mason for far too long and it was only when a wide midfielder in Pilkington was put up top, did we start to pull our opponent's defences around the place and start looking like we had any chance of getting anywhere near the Premier League!

Of course the loan signing of Tony Watt kept us in touch until the transfer embargo kicked in and the recruitment in January of Immers and Lawrence (in his earlier games) gave us momentum, before we picked up a couple of injuries and faded!

I would put it down as "if only he had played Saadi". :laughing6:

RS became bolder at Craven Cottage because we ended up chasing the game. Of course there are many reasons why we didn't make the play-offs but my personal marker will always be the Fulham game because going into it we were on a high and I really thought we would do it (make the play-offs) with a win there. However we lost and we never recovered.

I thought Pilkington's absence was a big factor on the day, as we started with Lawrence up top, who must have got a crick in his neck with the amount of balls that were aimed too high to him and when Lawrence was replaced by Zohore with Saadi also being pushed up front late on, we lacked a lot of mobility!
