Europa League chasing Rennes set to swoop for Cardiff City defender Bruno Manga and Premier Club Bournemouth also interested

French club poised to make summer move to land popular Bluebirds centre-back, with rivals Toulouse and Premier League Bournemouth also interested

Cardiff City’s failure to make the play-offs have put French suitors on red alert over Bruno Manga – with European chasing Rennes ready to make a move for the highly-rated Bluebirds centre-back.

The Ligue 1 club are set to appoint former Algeria manager Christian Gourcuff and it is being claimed he has already drawn up a list of summer transfer targets – including Manga.

Manga arrived in South Wales last summer in a deal worth around £5m, immediately impressing and going on to win the club’s player of the year prize.

The 27-year-old has struggled to make the same impact this term because of injuries and only recently overcame a worrying bout of malaria. He has been left to fight it out with Sean Morrison and Matt Connolly in Russell Slade's Bluebirds team.

However, Manga is the one being linked with a move to bigger things. Premier League Bournemouth have been among those touted as interested in making a summer bid, as well as French clubs.

Toulouse are monitoring Manga’s situation and there are also strong suggestions Rennes boss Gourcuff will move too, having previously worked with the defender at Lorient.

Rennes are seventh in the French League and hoping to secure a Europa League spot for next season.

Cardiff could be tempted to cash in with Manga not yet tied down to a new contract and set to enter the final year of his current deal where his transfer value will drop off.

There are no indications of Vincent Tan’s transfer intentions this summer and it might be viewed that the cash from a Manga sale would help fund recruitment in other areas of a squad in need of strengthening following the defeat at Sheffield Wednesday last Saturday which left top-six hopes in tatters.

Manga, who has stated his desire to return to top-level football, could see his future intertwined with that of centre-back Ben Turner whose contract at Cardiff is due to expire this summer following a string of injury problems.

Turner was on the bench for the Bluebirds at Hillsborough. It remains unclear whether he will be offered new terms.

He deserves a chance to play at a higher level, especially at the age of 27. A good player but a luxury at Championship level

As long as we can have a clause in the contract which forces a team to take Morrison aswell

He'll definitely be gone this summer.

Shame as we need all our best players if we're going to challenge next season but the club would probably prefer to get a couple of million for him and get his wages off the books.

One of the very few players who has a decent transfer value but I'm sure if the club gets an offer of £2m or more they will try to get him to leave.

Not sure that Morrison is good enough to be honest. Could a centre half pairing of Connolly and Turner be good enough for promotion? Doubt it and given Turner's sicknote record we would probably need another centre half should Bruno leave.

I thought he was brilliant when he first started playing games for us, I am not sure if he has the mentality of a top defender but he is very good nonetheless.

The end of the day, he doesn't impose himself on games to make himself irreplaceable :thumbright: :ayatollah: :bluebird:

It's pretty inevitable he will be sold if we get a reasonable offer

He's a very good player and will obviously be missed...the thing that annoys me about him is that everytime he goes off to play for his country he returns injured, ill or knackered. Misses way too many games because of it

Connolly and Turner played many games together last time we got promoted from the championship!!!

I'm 50/50 on whether Slade will get a contract but gut instinct just about tells me yes b cause it's Championship, not top flight.

As for Mamga, big shame if he goes but money talks.

Big fear is he goes for £5m and Slade gets £500,000 of it to spend!!!! :old:

Manga is class but can see him gone. He is not going to sign a new contract or even be offered one so clearly will be sold. 6m I would like but reckon 4.5m we will get. Need a big sell on of 30 percent future fee

Id like to see manga and ben turner as our centre backs next season, don't rate Connolly and especially Morrison at all

The club were very determined to keep Marshall last summer and have said they want to keep their best players despite cost cutting.

This doesn't mean he won't be sold but I believe they will throw a hard bargain and hold out for at least what they paid for him and rightly so.

As a fan I'd rather see him stay. Tan would prob take the majority of that to balance the books so the squad would prob see similar investment regardless. I think we'll see more loan players coming from his Belgian club and very little money spent.

As someone else commented good player but a luxury for us in the championship.

Turner, Morrisson, Connolly, Oshilaja and Ajay (sp?) Is good enough.

Cash in and put some faith in youth.
