Derby County footballing advisor Harry Redknapp is set for a shock appointment as manager of Nigeria, report the Daily Star.

The vastly experienced 69-year old was appointed in the advisory role with the Rams back in March, though insisted he did not want the job full-time upon the departure of former manager Paul Clement.

He recently ended a two game spell in charge of the Jordan national side and now could be set for a longer stay in international football.

It is claimed the former Portsmouth and Tottenham chief could be handed the reins with Nigeria within a matter of days.

The Super Eagles turned to former coach Samson Siasia following the recent departure of Sunday Oliseh for their upcoming friendlies with Mali and Luxembourg, though are thought to view Redknapp as an ideal replacement.

Despite a wealth of experience in club management, including spells at Bournemouth, Southampton, West Ham and QPR, he remains largely untested on the international front.

He was strongly touted as a potential England manager before the job went to Roy Hodgson in 2012 and has been out of work in a full-time capacity since leaving Loftus Road in 2015, prior to their relegation.

The Nigerian job is viewed as one of the biggest in African football, though they will not contest next year’s African Cup of Nations after failing to qualify.
