The former London Mayor has been suspended over a series of astonishing media appearances defending Bradford MP Naz Shah



Ken Livingstone has been suspended from the Labour Party today for "bringing the party into disrepute".

The row follows Livingstone going on BBC London Radio last night to defend Bradford MP Naz Shah, who was suspended yesterday over a 2014 Facebook post which supported 'relocation' of Israelis to the USA.

The former London Mayor said he'd never heard anything antisemitic in all his time in the Labour Party, and claimed Hitler himself was once a supporter of Zionism.

The Labour Party confirmed his suspension this afternoon.


He told the BBC's Vanessa Feltz: "As I’ve said, I’ve never heard anybody say anything anti-Semitic, but there’s been a very well-orchestrated campaign by the Israel lobby to smear anybody who criticises Israeli policy as anti-Semitic. I had to put up with 35 years of this..."

He also said "to think of antisemitism and racism as exactly the same thing" was "over the top."

And he went on to say: “Let’s remember when Hitler won his election in 1932, his policy then was that Jews should be moved to Israel.

"He was supporting Zionism – this before he went mad and ended up killing six million Jews.

"The simple fact in all of this is that Naz made these comments at a time when there was another brutal Israeli attack on the Palestinians."

Jeremy Corbyn: We are not tolerating anti-Semitism

Speaking from a campaign visit to Grimsby, Jeremy Corbyn said: "He has been suspended from the party. We are not tolerating anti-Semitism in any form whatsoever in our party."

In a statement, the Labour party said: “Ken Livingstone has been suspended by the Labour Party, pending an investigation, for bringing the Party into disrepute.

“The Chief Whip has summoned John Mann MP to discuss his conduct."


Speaking in Cambridgeshire during an EU referendum campaign visit, David Cameron said: "It's quite clear that the Labour Party has got a problem with anti-Semitism and I think they have got to recognise that anti-Semitism is like racism.

"It is unacceptable in a modern political party, and every political party facing this problem has got to deal with it.

"As I said to Jeremy Corbyn some weeks ago - when I was shouted down in the House of Commons with cries of 'Disgraceful!' from the Labour benches - they have got a problem, it's now totally apparent they have got a problem and they have got to deal with it."


Mr Livingstone, the former London Mayor, was forced to curtail an interview with LBC Radio this afternoon when Labour MP John Mann confronted him, calling him "a Nazi apologist".

He went on to say: "Go back and check what Hitler did? There's a book called Mein Kampf, you've obviously never heard of it."

Mr Livingstone told LBC host James O'Brien he was under attack from a "violent MP" who was going "completely over the top."

An astonishing video emerged of the altercation, showing Mr Mann chasing the former London Mayor up a staircase in London's Milbank, yelling at him while he tried to continue the interview.

Livingstone is beyond belief thinking he can recite Hitler's view of Israel and Jew's as justification for another MP's over the top anti semitic Facebook posting about relocating the Israeli population to the USA.

He also states that"to think of anti-semitism and racism as exactly the same thing" was "over the top."

Is Livingstone really trying to say that there is a league table where negative views against Muslim's (for example) is racism but the same thing for Jews doesn't apply?

That is just warped think well beyond anything the racist BNP used to spout and more akin to what you would expect from ISIS.

Ken Livingstone dug his own political grave today and no-one will ever take him seriously again.

Both are forever moaning about white people and how hard done by the black population is. What Shah said was a bit silly really, but unacceptable. What Livingstone has done is just idiotic, and will be shocked if he's not kicked out of the party now.

But to label the party "racist" because of two individuals is also idiotic.

I may be biased as a Labour voter and supporter, but this is nowhere as bad as what some UKIP members have been kicked out for - also, as someone who can't stand UKIP, don't think you can label them racist because of what a minority of their members say or do.

Anyway, both will be out of the party soon and that will be the right thing.

Spot on. For some reason the logic is you can't be racist towards Israel (or Jewish people in general) and white people, unless they are Gypsy's.

In the case of Israel it is claimed that any criticism of their behaviour towards Palestinians is not anti-Semitic but any criticism of Muslim's by anyone over anything is automatically racism

It is double standards like this which are fueling antagonism
