THERE may be two rounds of matches still to go in the Sky Bet Championship campaign, but the summer silly season is already up and running.
No sooner had Bristol City head coach Lee Johnson publicly stated his intention to embark upon a major recruitment drive than one of his star players was linked with a possible move away from Ashton Gate.
City only confirmed their Championship status on Saturday, but internet outfit HITC were quick on the draw when claiming Aston Villa, Cardiff City and Sheffield Wednesday were all monitoring Marlon Pack's situation.
And that story came hard on the heels of last week's revelation that the Robins were tracking Preston North End's highly-rated midfielder Josh Brownhill.
While there is at least some substance in stories linking City with a possible move for Brownhill in the summer, suggestions that Pack is attracting interest from a trio of Championship rivals has, so far, proved totally unfounded.
A telephone call to City chief operating officer Mark Ashton, the man responsible for brokering the club's transfer business, confirmed there had been no contact from Villa, Wednesday or Cardiff.
As things stand, Pack has a year to run on his Ashton Gate contract and, having spoken to the former Cheltenham midfielder following last Saturday's 2-2 draw at Blackburn Rovers, he appears to be enjoying life at Ashton Gate.
But that will not prevent his agent putting his name out there and there is likely to be plenty of chatter regarding Pack and some of his City teammates as the summer progresses.
As always, rumours will abound and, whenever they surface, the Post will be on hand to check their validity and keep the club's supporters informed.
