Huddersfield captain Mark Hudson has penned a new three-year deal at the club.

Huddersfield captain Mark Hudson has penned a new three-year deal at the club. The defender's contract was due to expire at the end of the season but he will now stay with the Terriers until 2019.

Hudson, who holds a UEFA B coaching license, will also start coaching at the Sky Bet Championship club. Head coach David Wagner told the club's official site: "I'm unbelievably happy that Mark Hudson will be a part of my squad for the next seasons. "I have said before that the whole squad accepted the big changes I made when I arrived in November and Mark was a big reason for that. As captain - and one of the biggest influences in the dressing room - he set a great example, as he understood that the changes we made will make his career longer. "It is a great move for the club to keep him here as a coach in the long term, but I believe he still has a big part to play on the pitch for us as we look to make the next steps in our development. "Mark's performances during my time here have been good and he is an important player in a squad that is generally young and still learning." Hudson has made 81 appearances for Huddersfield, scoring five goals.

Should have kept him. Last true leader we've had at the city, we missed him bad last year.

I think that when he actually retires he will be the next young manager to impress everyone.

He should still be here.

Of all the gormeless things that OGS did, letting Mark Hudson go was the worst. Forced Mark out, to be honest.

Agreed and the way he was treated was a disgrace

Wasn't interested in being a squad player though, I don't think? And he would never have got into the starting line-up, if we're honest. Rightly or wrongly, the feeling seemed to be that he had slowed down as a player and that he couldn't go like he used to.

I'm not sure about that. He was sold and we spent a pile of money on Morrison, are you really convinced that Hudson didn't offer more than Morrison? Manga and Hudson would have been a great pairing.

Hudson is a better passer, better leader, equal to him in the air and both lack pace. I'd take Hudson over Morrison every time but particularly at the start of last season when we had lost some big players after relegation :ayatollah:

I think Morrison was signed whilst Hudson was still at the club, which for me was done with the intention of phasing Hudson out. As you said, they possess similar qualities/weaknesses. Manga coming in meant Hudson was never going to get football, even if I do agree that the two might have been a bloody good pairing at the back.

Hudson's time was up the moment Malky chose to drop him for the Premier League. By the time OGS came in, Hudson wasnt even getting on the bench was he? He might've been club captain, but he wasn't being treated like one. OGS did give him a shot to be fair, but in his mind I think he thought he needed rid of Hudson to show that this was his own Cardiff City squad going into 14/15. Shame it only lasted a few games! :D

OGS might not have ended things in the right way, but Malky was the one who ended Hudson's Ciry career, for me.

Sooooo true! Still had a lot to offer as a player but more so a leader, something we haven't had since he left. The club should also have seen his coaching potential. With Tan cost cutting, Hudson could have been groomed to be a future manager, but that's our loss (again) and Huddersfields gain.
Good luck to him :ayatollah:, I think he'll make a fantastic manager.

Agree with this post 100%. Also as much as i'm a Manga fan I honestly think connolly and Hudson would have been a strong enough pairing for us in the championship, with Turner and Oshilaja as back up... we would have been 10m odd better off and not weakened too much.

While I agree I can also see the clubs point of view, Morrison is a lot younger and Hudson had a lot of injuries before he was sold.

Im certainly not Morison fan but I remember the stick Hudson got from our fans for the first couple of season, most rated him at conference level if I remember correctly.
