Cardiff City are favourites to win their crunch Championship clash with Sheffield Wednesday according to former boss Dave Jones.

Russell Slade’s Bluebirds head to Hillsborough on Saturday needing a win, then to beat Birmingham on the last day whilst hoping Wednesday slip up at Molineux at the same time if they are to pip the Owls to sixth-spot.

Jones was in charge of the Bluebirds for six years from 2005 to 2011 and oversaw a number of play-off pushes in the Welsh capital including losing out in the final to Blackpool in 2010 .

In 2009 Jones oversaw a disastrous end to the campaign as the Bluebirds collapsed and were beaten by Preston to a play-off spot. It was defeat at Hillsborough that confirmed the remarkable turn around that year.

Jones was fired from Cardiff in 2011 after crashing out of the play-offs once more and actually went on to have a season-and-a-half in charge at Wednesday.

He believes the pressure is now on the Owls to hold onto their sixth-place spot and that Slade and his men can capitalise on that and Jones believes the Bluebirds’ experiences in the Championship play-offs will be an advantage too.

“Sheffield Wednesday have got it to lose. They may have a few nerves,” Jones told the BBC .

“Cardiff have got to go into the game with no fear. The club has been in that position many times. Who will be the most nervous? I would probably say Sheffield Wednesday because they’ve got it to lose.”

Jones, who has also been in change at Stockport, Southampton and Wolves, has been out of the game since departing Wednesday in December 2013, but the 59-year-old, who guided Cardiff to the FA Cup Final in 2008 too, said he was keen now to get back into management.

Jones added: “I took some time out to spend with my family. I’ve not really had a break away from it. I’ve done a lot of consultancy work of late. I want to get back in and I just have to wait for the right opportunity.”

Looking at the way SWFC are collapsing their play-off hopes you have to wonder if some of this 'consultancy work' was Jones advising the Owls ;)

Probably would be his biggest achievement concerning Cardiff.

Think Sheffield will be more nervous as they are the home team and the crowd will be anxious the longer the game goes on without a goal and if we were to take the lead they will be bricking it, I think in a sense it will work to our advantage we know we go there looking for a win and nothing but a win, whereas Sheffield they only need a point so what do they do, do they sit back do they go for the win?pressure is all on Sheffield Wednesday I think , and if we do beat Sheffield Wed then the pressure may get to them last game.

That's my positive post for the week
