' PLAYERS & FANS SAY CARDIFF DONT DESERVE PLAY-OFFS '

Cardiff City would be the most undeserving play-off team' What Sheffield Wednesday fans and players are saying about the big one

25 APR 2016

BY PHIL SMITH

Sheffield Wednesday fans will feel they have every reason to be confident ahead of Saturday's titanic clash with Cardiff City.

They have occupied a spot in the top six for the majority of this play-off race, playing a vibrant brand of attacking football.

As has been said time and time again, however, this is the most unpredictable of divisions.

Cardiff are on a high after getting out of jail at the last minute against Bolton, and the Owls' are yet to beat a side in the top seven this season.

We took a look at what the mood in their camp is like, from the manager to the fans...

The Boss - Carlos Carvalhal
The Portugese boss told the Sheffield Star: "You have seen the games so you know what I will say.

"You have seen the game against Ipswich, you saw the game against MK Dons and you saw the game at Derby.

Carlos Carvalhal
"The people saw the game on TV and I am sure everybody is saying we are in a good way, we are playing good football. There are no problems about that.

"This is football - it is a marathon.

"We must play against all the opponents through the season and at the end we must see where we are.

"I am happy with the team, happy with the performance. We achieved one more point and this is important."

The Keeper - Keiren Westwood

"We worked that hard for so long [against Derby], it was really frustrating to come away with only a point.

"I played well and I’m happy with my performance.

"I was happy with the rest of the lads really.

"We worked our tails off and just got done with a header at the back post.

"It was a good point, I suppose, and we go on to Cardiff next week."

" SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY FANS "

Owls' fans are desperate to get a big atmosphere going for the game...

There's plenty of excitement...

And a fair few nerves too...

They're hoping their team don't try and settle for a point...

With Barry Bannan, they think anything is possible...

Some don't think much of Cardiff...

And some just outright don't like the Bluebirds' team...

If you get it you deserve it and thats especially true under these circumstances.

Wednesday are bricking it and spouting crap like that proves it! I think we have got them beat already. :ayatollah:

Over the coarse of a season if a team is above someone else then they have deserved it over those below them. That is a stupid remark if you ask me from the steel City. Those above us so far have deserved to be there because they have won more games. Or lost less.

Was it this 'vibrant brand of attacking football' that got them a 0-0 home draw with MK Dons last Tuesday?

At the end if the season, every club will be where they deserve to be. Wednesday have been down to League 1 recently, so to get to the Championship play-offs must be a huge thrill to them. They sound a lot more excited about it than we are!

If we manage to somehow get to the playoffs, we will more deserve a place there. It will be a miracle achievement and that alone would merit us being there. Of course at the moment it's more likely that the Owls will get it but who knows, we are still in with a chance to topple them over and fall from 6th spot. MK Dons last season was a good example of reaching auto promotion spot. They didn't look like they would do it but they pipped it at the last hurdle. We beat sheff Wed they will be bricking it going into the last game. :bluescarf: :bluebird:

Couldn't agree more

I would remind Sheffield W about 2009 when we were piped at the death by Preston after being top 6 most of the season  and it was the Owls who put the final nail in the coffin by beating us 1-0 in the final game of the season.

They didn't seem to care who 'deserved' it then

which players have said we dont deserve a playoff place?

Re: ' PLAYERS & FANS SAY CARDIFF DONT DESERVE PLAY-OFFS '

Yeah I would like to know which players said this!
If by miracle we do get in to the play offs. I am unsure as to why anyone would say they do not deserve it!
Surely if a player and team give their all and achieve something that looked out of sight! How could they not deserve it!!! In my opinion if they do not get in it is not through lack of want or desire it is because they are simply not good enough!
However, what ever the out come I will be proud and happy to admit that the boys have far passed my expectations for this season!
As long as they turn up and fight for the blue jersey you have to be happy either way.

To be fair we did batter MK Dons I think if one of the 4 times we hit the post was a bit different! It doesn't matter now though nobody will care about the quality of football to get over the line with the result they need.

Who says you wouldn't deserve it? I think one or two of our fans are getting under YOUR skin lads. You're brewing up some real mind games in the paper at the moment.

That's football! We battered Leeds, and lost 2-0! The point I was, sort of, trying to make is this; Wednesday went down to League 1 in 2009/10, and we got to the play-off final. We lost, but the next few years were all about play-offs, promotions, league cup finals, re-branding, and relegation. Wednesday had a couple of years in League 1, then got promoted after an epic battle with Sheffield United. So, it's very much an upward curve for Wednesday. We still have this Premier League, and rebranding, hangover.

Whoever finishes sixth, at the end of a long, hard, season, will deserve it. If it's Wednesday, then I hope you go up.
