Shock: Bhutan claimed the most unlikely of victories
The world's worst football team have completed one of the biggest shocks of the season - by winning their debut World Cup qualifier.

Despite being ranked 209th out of 209 in the world, Bhutan defied all of the odds to win both legs of their first ever foray into the world's premier competition.

After claiming a surprise 1-0 victory in the first leg, Bhutan rallied to claim a 2-1 victory at he Changlimithang Stadium, Thimphu, with both goals coming from now-national hero Chencho Gyeltshen.

The small nation, situated in the heart of the Himalayas, did not have a competitive win to their name before facing Sri Lanka.

But Sri Lanka boss Nikola Kavazovic has more egg on his face than anyone else, after declaring that his side would win the second leg.

Talk about a giant killing: World's WORST team Buhtan beat Sri Lanka in 2018 World Cup qualifier
He admitted: “Yes, it is embarrassing, losing to the worst team in the world.

“But I expect we will win the second game. And if we don’t, I will have an unexpected holiday for a few months.”

Bhutan captain Karma Shedrup Tshering revealed before the game, however, that his side were not feeling any pressure.

He said: “Everyone was talking about us being at the bottom but we didn’t feel any pressure because you can only go one way from there and that's upwards.

“All the expectation was on Sri Lanka and they were talking a lot about beating us, but we kept our calm and let our football talk for us.”

To put it into context, Europe's worst side, San Marino, rank 28 places above Bhutan. Sri Lanka were 35 places above them.

Before the game took place, Bhutan were the only team in the world to have absolutely zero FIFA points for the rankings next to their name.

In the year 2000, they were thrashed 20-0 on aggregate by minnows Kuwait in an Asian Cup qualifier.

It is yet to be confirmed whether the Bhutan team celebrated with takeaway chicken from KFC, just like they did after the first leg.

Meanwhile, Vardy has insisted Leicester’s players are enjoying a “fairground ride” and are not feeling the title pressure.

The Foxes defied suggestions that they would struggle without the suspended 22-goal striker with a resounding 4-0 win over Swansea.

Vardy, speaking at the PFA awards, said: “All the lads will say the same.

“Its like a fairground ride and we are just enjoying ourselves and we will keep enjoying ourselves for the last few games. There are no nerves at all.”
