Hope history is not repeated

Sun Apr 24, 2016 11:48 am

I remember travelling to Sheffield many years ago to watch a crunch match against the other Sheffield club. I was confident that I was about to see Cardiff get into the top flight at the expense of Sheff Utd, but things did'nt quite go to plan and we lost 5-1. Lets hope we don't get more of the same this time around.

That game was a long time ago, in fact, it was played almost 45 years ago (27/04/71),,,however it was one of those games that has woven itself into City's folk law.

Is it true that City took over 20.000 to Bramall Lane that evening?

(I like the bit about the City Skinheads).

I was a youngster then and as you say it was a long time back. From what i remember we had a good following but nowhere near those sort of numbers. I think it was a midweek game (don't quote me on that) but I seem to remember that my mate's father who took us up in a Morris Minor took the day off work to go there. We had good gates at home that season, regularly getting 20,000 plus, and sometimes 25,000 or so. Teams like Sheffield Utd, Leicester, Birmingham, Middlesbrough etc used to be our main competitors back then, although sometime around that period I remember Aston Villa being bottom of division 2.
