Some people feel that Cardiff failing to make the play-offs is a failure, that the current squad should be challenging for automatic promotion.


Personally I think that the club is not exactly built for success at present. The squad may have been expensively assembled over a number of years, but they’re also working under a transfer ban and sold their strikers in January.

It also neglects to factor in that the current top six have spent heavily this season and that generates the momentum that Cardiff currently lack.

Slade may have taken this group of players as far as he can. He may even have taken this group of players as far as anyone can.

Without reinforcement, this squad will only stagnate and it will be even harder to go up from here on in.
