Russell Slade on not starting Zohore for the Brentford game

Slade Said: I don’t think you can start looking at things like that and saying I should have done this, should we have done this?
It’s alright looking back. That group had played very well in the first period.
Kenneth’s come on previously and it’s not quite happened for him and he’s missed opportunities.
I’m delighted for him. He’s come on, he’s scored an opportunity and we’re pleased for him and that might give him a little bit of confidence and momentum going forward so it’s a positive.
However, we still find ourselves six points behind Sheffield Wednesday.

Actually Russ yes you can start looking at things and say yes I should have done this or that(that's how you improve as a manager learn from your mistakes)...

You picked the wrong starting 11 and you didn't react quick enough to change things and we lost the game....Buck stops with you as the manager!!

Starting eleven arguments are always easy after the event. However, what Slade has proved time and time again is his inability to change a formation/players during a game, whether we are ahead or chasing the game.

QPR, Fulham and Brentford were games that could have been won had he not delayed in changing things to go for those wins when it clearly wasn't working.

He's done well at creating a squad that plays together but tactically he just cannot cope at this level.

Dave Jones was often criticised for not having a Plan B but this guy takes that to a whole new level !!!!

Slade is right saying Zohore had missed a few previous chances, I'm just getting fed up of constantly slagging off the players and him not taking responsibility. We know it can get boring if a manager never criticises the players, but Slade is taking it too far. This one is loves to deflect attention away from himself.

Not fair on Zohore when he had half chances within 7 minute cameos.

Slade doesn't care about that, all that matters is that he has justified why he never put Zohore earlier on in the second half, or started with him.

Fans will notice Slade's media tactics soon enough, everything Slade does is spot-on (according to Slade)

He doesn't do himself any favors he needs to sort himself out.

It's called learning from your mistakes Russell.

Did he have his eyes closed for the whole of the first half of the QPR game? Did he not notice that the only time we started to even look a tiny bit threatening against QPR was when the substitutions were made?

And yet he picks the same starting eleven that had performed so woefully in the first half against QPR to start the game at Brentford. :o

And then he thinks that the first half against Brentford they played "very well"? :laughing6: :laughing6:

Every time he opens his mouth he proves how completely clueless he is.

I was going to start a thread lunch time saying "Starting Zahore or dropping Pilkington"

For Slade its the latter. How do you start a conversation with Pilkington who has run his guts out, played through pain telling him he is being dropped.

Slade is loyal to the "group"and the group is loyal to him. It is very very hard for outsiders (squad players) to gain trust.

I get Slade, it is old school, it does work until you run out of steam.

Perhaps he should play Pilkington in his natural position out wide instead of either Noone who has reverted back to the "headless chicken" routine of last season, or Whitts who is playing out of position and who certainly hasn't "run his guts out" this season.

Then perhaps he could play striker who is actually a striker rather than playing Pilkington out of position as well.

I would be tempted to start Pilkington and Zohore and drop Whitts, legend though he is.

When slade moved pilks upfront it worked, but I said at the time slade will keep the same system and players weeks after it has been found out and doesn't work anymore. Sadly right.
