" Next season "

Mon Apr 18, 2016 6:49 am

I wouldn't be surprised if we finished in the bottom half of the table. Unless we spend some decent money in the summer transfer window (hoping the embargo has been lifted). There are some big clubs coming down who will spend he money and already have quality to bounce straight back up. Not to mention the strong teams this year that won't go up! And every now and then we see a team come up from league one and get promoted to the premier league the next season! I hope I'm wrong and it's only my opinion but I would say the top 2 spots for automatic have already been taken and the fight for a playoff final win will be fierce. Unless we spend some money I think next season will be very hard for us and we could easily finish abit lower than this season. I don't like to be negative and I'm not normally with many of my posts but it's just a horrible feeling I've got. Like I say I hope I'm proved wrong. What does everyone else think?

The 2 automatic promotion spots for NEXT SEASON have already been taken...5 months before the season even starts??????

How does that work then??

I really don't get why people are so worried about the 3 relegated teams next season more so than any other ??

Villa - we would have a good shot at beating their current team let alone a team that will have to sell some of their better players.

Newcastle - would be a danger because of the money side of things but how many of their current squad will want to play in the Championship ?

Sunderland - will have to re-build with people like Defoe, O'Shea, Kabul, Brown and a number of their foreign stars bound to leave.

Norwich - they know how to get out of the Championship but, again, how many of their top players will they keep ?

It's the same every season and it's a fairly safe bet, based on previous seasons, that a maximum one of the three will get promoted. It will also be interesting to see whether FFP affects the teams that don't go up this season; Derby, Brighton, Boro, Wednesday have all spent massively so we'll see what the summer brings.

Having said all of that, if we don't get out of the transfer embargo we will struggle. We need to sign Immers and two or three attacking players otherwise we will struggle.

Obviously I don't mean literally but It could be written somewhere in the stars already if you know what I mean. The point I was saying about us having a tough season next time was only if we don't spend and add quality. I firmly believe that if we do spend wisely than we could end up top 6. Of course the aim next season shud be no less than a top 6 finish by the club but I think that'll be easier said than done. I also believe that these teams coming down (you could bet that at least 2 will go back up and possibly by automatic promos. It's only my opinion like I said before and speculation and I really hope I'm wrong. That's of course unless somehow we make the playoffs this season and go up! :bluescarf: :bluebird:

I seem to remember everyone being worried about us when we came down from the Premier League, didn't quite work like that did it :?

The Championship is a great leveller and will be again next season. We have a core of excellent players with a wealth of Championship experience all we lack is proven goal scorers who want to play and score for Cardiff City. :bluescarf:

If we are to spend it should be on strikers. The rest of the team looks after itself and I would prefer to see promotions from the Development side rather than £millions spent in the transfer market.

The present squad will be top ten again next time around.

The number of games we have lost or drawn this season when just one goal would have changed the result just continue to mount up.

A few tweaks and quality additions could turn them into a decent top 6 prospect.

The defence is as good as most. Malone is a weak link. He cannot defend, and flatters to deceive going forward. I don't rate Fabio. I suspect manga will be sod but I'm happy with Morrison - he's our best shot at a goal at the moment.

The midfield needs a ball carrier, a holding midfielder, someone who can pass FORWARD plus wide men with pace. This is one area that needs review. Pilkington is wasted up front. Not sure about Immers, he has no pace.

The main area for change is up front. Money has to be spent on an experienced striker, and so no stone should be unturned to find one.

Next season then - ? indicates a new player is needed

Marshall or ? if he goes
Peltier Morrison Connelly ?
Ralls Whittingham ? ? ?
?

I would suggest that Healey is a natural goalscorer, and could IMO flourish in this league. I really hope he gets a chance and not loaned out again.

What a pointless negative statement, personally I think Slade has us on the right path and we are improving over time and see no reason we won't finish 4th to 6th next season.

It's abit harsh to say its a pointless statement, especially as this is about the first time I've been negative all season. I was miles more positive than most people during the first few months of the season and have seen the good in what slade has done. I have backed slade since the beginning but just saying it how I see it. i agree with one of the points made above that a few tweaks may e what we need but I wouldn't say a few tweaks would get us promoted or even top 6. This season yes - next season I just can't see it. I. Not saying that I want the club to go and spend lots of money and waste £'s on gambling our way up. I believe overall this season has been about where I thought we would be but who knows perhaps we will make the playoffs anyway!

Depends what we got to spend, surely if we sell our key players and spend pennys how can anyone say we might finish 4th or 6th, imo if we keep them players and add a few more depending on what slades got to spend then id agree with the 4th or 6th post :bluescarf:

if we get immers from the start next season and a proven goalscorer i think we could be pushing for top 2 also this season is not over yet

If we just sign a striker next season with this current squad we won't be in top 2, Newcastle will piss the league next season if they come down, everyone will be another year older, don't think Whittingham will be as effective as before same as a few others

I believe Marshall & Manga stay

To leave :- Turner, Doyle, ALf, MAcheda, Pilkington, Noone,Fabio, Dikgacoi, Gunnarson, Harris, Kennedy, Ademyemi,

Still leave us a good nucleus at the back and centre midfield

Marshall,Peltier, Malone, John, Manga, Connolly, Morrison

Whitts (though fading), Ralls, O'Keefe, O'Sullivan

The position we need to upgrade are the pace positions out wide and up front where we need a total overhaul

I don't think Slade stays the manager/coach though

You never know with Newcastle they could do a Blackburn or a Leeds and fall in limbo in the championship and I feel we are missing a good striker which is what cost us this season.

If we keep Marshall and Manga and sign the right players then we're in with a chance. I'm not convinced by Slade, but we'll see.

Lets think about this in the real world.

I have an 18 month contract to do a job of work. I think my employer is happy, and i have conducted over 80 pieces of work and have three to go and there has been no talk of another contract. I would assume that when this contract finishes i'll move on.

We live in a free market economy, the market place dictates your worth. Slade who in so many peoples eyes has done a wonderfull job could sign for another club, hassle and fee free, but hasn't. He could be in line for the Villa job and sign for them with three games to go, but hasn't. If we were worried about clubs poaching our manager we'd have signed him up by now, but we haven't.

IMO Vinny is proving he is not mental and if you sign a contract with us we'll honour it, as long as you fall within the key performance indicators that were agreed in your contract. After tonight three more games then au revoir with a bonus cheque and a big thank you.
