Everton have stepped up their interest in Mainz goalkeeper Loris Karius as Tim Howard's career on Merseyside comes to an end. The 22-year-old has risen through the ranks in the German national side and made his professional debut back in 2012.

The Toffees are on the look out for a new shot-stopper after Howard suffered a dip in form before announcing he would be returning to his native USA to play for MLS side Colorado Rapids.
